October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and was first recognized in October 1987. Each October, communities across the nation get together to acknowledge the prevalence of domestic violence and honor those who have been affected by violence with vigils, walks and other awareness-raising activities.
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Tower of the Americas will be lit purple from sunrise to sunset beginning today October 15 through Wednesday October 31. (Tower of the Americas, 2018)
