Ryan Kinder’s Room to Dream LP is available now. Photo: google
In the age of fitting a mold, country music’s newest renaissance man Ryan Kinder has preserved the influences and nuances which set him apart from the crowd on his road warrior ascent to streaming stardom. His debut full-length album Room To Dream unfolds like a masterclass of how to break free from genre-constraints—with distinctive swings from fuzz-laden guitar licks to feel-good drum programming to radio-ready melodies. For years, Kinder’s signature blend—he says “it’s a riff-roaring rock with a sweet side of Southern soul”—has attracted droves of fans through exceptional musicianship and electrifying live shows. He has taken all of the magic straight from the stage into the studio and the result is the eclectic and exciting Room To Dream. Fans can stream or purchase Room To Dream right now at this link. Nashville fans can catch Kinder at the Listening Room Cafe on August 21, no doubt sharing songs from his new album. Ticket information can be found here. (Ryan Kinder, 2021)
Kinder uses his tour dates to bolster his charitable organization, Kinder’s Kids. One image from the Tuscaloosa tornado stuck with him—a child clutching her teddy bear, surrounded by wreckage where their house used to be. Seeing how that toy brought her comfort, he created Kinder’s Kids to personally deliver toys to children in the aftermath of national disasters. In his tour rider, Kinder asks each venue to supply a toy for the foundation.
Beyond his music career, Kinder has immersed himself in training for triathlons and Ironman competitions. He completed his first distance cycling ride on the Natchez Trace in memory of a friend who had recently died of cancer, ultimately riding 444 miles. On that ride, he talked to his late friend’s racing buddy, who introduced him to the IRONMAN®–where an athlete swims 2.4 miles, rides 112 miles, and runs 26.2 miles. Being told that his late friend had always wanted to do one, Kinder took it upon himself to achieve that dream in his honor. In October, he will compete in the IRONMAN® World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.

Scott Krokoff’s new single ‘Far Too Many Times.’ Photo: google
With a rich sound drawn primarily from his love of 60s and 70s music, New Yorker Scott Krokoff weaves elements of folk rock and country pop into confessional and compelling Americana. He is an evocative and introspective songwriter, and a deft finger-picking in the vein of James Taylor and Paul Simon with “an edge of Replacements styled alt rock to his strum.” (Hiplanta). Scott has opened for Elle King and Grace Weber, toured from Vermont to Nashville, played live in Belgium for his biggest fan, and received radio airplay throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. A Thousand Turns, The Delevantes’ first album of new music in twenty years, will be out September 17 on Moon River Records. Photo: google
On the precipice of brothers Bob and Mike Delevante helping define a new collective genre of music, Rolling Stone once said “The Delevantes deliver a broad view of the American musical crossroad where country and rock meet and, in this case, become one.” To put it simply, The Delevantes—along with contemporaries like Lucinda Williams, Wilco, Son Volt, the Jayhawks, and Whiskeytown—were right in the middle of it all when the term “Americana” started getting thrown around in regards to music. Now, after two decades since their last album, The Delevantes find themselves releasing new music into a thriving international scene of the roots-meets-rock-meets-country sound they helped pioneer. On September 17, Bob and Mike are releasing The Delevantes’ A Thousand Turns, a full-length album produced by The Delevantes, long-term production partner and founding member of E Street Band, Garry Tallent, and multi-instrumentalist, Dave Coleman. Fans can hear the album’s first single, “Little By Little,” right now and pre-order or pre-save A Thousand Turns right here. (The Delevantes, 2021)
Opening with a jungle-y drum beat and jangle-y guitars, “Little By Little” is a feel good tune, celebrating life’s perseverance—purposeful or not. Born and raised in a working-class New Jersey family, the brothers’ dynamic harmonies evoke classic duos like The Everly Brothers and The Louvin Brothers before them, and The Avett Brothers and Fleet Foxes after.
The Delevantes debut album, Long About That Time, was released by Rounder Records to considerable critical acclaim in 1995. Garry Tallent, long-time bass player in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, co-produced the record. A growing fanbase creating a buzz, hits on the new Gavin Americana radio chart, and a memorable roots-rockin’ performance at SXSW in Austin helped the Delevantes seal a major label deal with Capitol Records. Their second album and major label debut Postcards From Along The Way, was again co-produced by Tallent.
Tallent is back yet again as co-producer on A Thousand Turns. In 2019, Bob and Mike Delevante returned to New Jersey to open for Southside Johnny, joined by Bruce Springsteen and Tallent, at the legendary Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Performing together again sparked new creative energy. With an invitation from Nashville’s Blackbird Academy to record, the brothers reunited with bandmates Tallent and Bryan Owings. The sessions gave birth to A Thousand Turns, produced by the Delevantes, Garry Tallent and Dave Coleman, and mixed by Mixmaster Bill Schnee.

‘Save For Love’ is Suzanne Santo’s third single from sophomore solo album Yard Sale, available everywhere August 27, 2021. Photo: google
A tireless creator, Suzanne Santo has built her sound in the grey area between Americana, Southern-gothic soul, and forward-thinking rock & roll. It is a sound that nods to her past—a childhood spent in the Rust Belt which is also where she learned to love a yard sale; a decade logged as a member of the L.A.-based duo HoneyHoney; the acclaimed solo album, Ruby Red, of which Paste called “shameless, self-aware dialogue that opens the door for conversation that leads to real healing;” and the world tour that took her from Greece to Glastonbury as a member of Hozier’s band—while still exploring new territory. With Yard Sale, Santo boldly moves forward, staking her claim once again as an Americana innovator. It is an album inspired by the past, written by an artist who is only interested in the here-and-now. For Suzanne Santo, the here-and-now sounds pretty good. (Suzanne Santo, 2021)
Yard Sale, the sophomore solo album from now Austin, Texas-based Suzanne Santo, is comprised of 12 songs written between Hozier rehearsals, some with Santo holing up in a farmhouse on the rural Irish coast, while others were finished during bus rides, backstage writing sessions, and hotel stays. A multi-faceted creative, fans likely know Santo from her work in musical duo HoneyHoney and from her extensive touring with the aforementioned Hozier in which she was both the opener and a band member. The Cleveland, Ohio-born artist’s creative output also extends to the screen, having had acting roles in several series and features. Recently, Santo released Yard Sale’s third single “Save For Love.” It is available on all streaming platforms by clicking here. Yard Sale releases August 27 via Soundly Music.
The album presents Santo at the very top of her game musically, writing her own string arrangements and singing each song in an agile, acrobatic voice—perhaps in part due to the cathartic making-of process and what that has meant for her professionally and personally. At times, she bridges the gap between indie-rock and neo-soul. On other tracks, she mixes gospel influences with a deconstructed R&B beat. Fans will hear layers of spacey, atmospheric electric guitar and Shakey Graves on a rainy-day ballad driven forward by a metronomic drum pattern, and Gary Clark Jr. punctuating with fiery fretwork. Both Shakey Graves and Gary Clark Jr. represent Santo’s commitment to and respect for Austin’s musical community. Realizing that there is more than just tequila in the water in Texas, Santo’s move to Austin and this album is the musical equivalent of a homeowner’s purging of old possessions in order to clear up some much-needed room.
The album’s first single “Bad Beast” is also available for listening on all DSPs and by clicking here, and finds Santo wrestling creativity out of a particularly gripping bout with insomnia. “Common Sense,” the album’s second single, was released in June, and is also available for streaming by clicking here.
Yard Sale Track listing: 1. Over and Over Again 2. Mercy 3. Gold Rush 4. Save For Love 5. Bad Beast 6. Since I Had Your Love 7. Afraid Of Heights 8. Fall For That 9. Common Sense 10. To No End 11. Idiot 12. Island

‘Night Time Eagle’ is Jeremy Pinnell’s second single from his new album Goodbye L.A., due out October 1. Photo: google
When Jeremy Pinnell released OH/KY in the summer of 2015 to stunned acclaim, it felt like an entire career compressed into one knock-out album. Hailed as, a “Mind-blowingly good” (Greg Vandy/KEXP) “tutorial on classic country music” (Popmatters), Pinnell’s debut immediately was set apart as authentic and unflinching. Dogged touring through Europe and the States and celebrated radio sessions followed, cementing Pinnell’s position as a no-fuss master of his craft. (Jeremy Pinnell, 2021)
His 2017 album, Ties of Blood and Affection presented a canny lateral move. Instead of doubling down on the stark themes and values of his debut, the sophomore album found Pinnell finding comfort in his own skin, achieving the redemption only hinted at in his previous batch of haunted songs. Pinnell’s newest album, Goodbye L.A., is set to be released on October 1, 2021.
In a flurry of vocal harmonies, funky telecaster picking, and a steady two step beat, Jeremy Pinnell’s brand new single “Night Time Eagle” is off to the races before listeners even know what hit them. It is a song full of Bakersfield country vibes over which Pinnell’s words narrate the balance of keeping the proverbial tour-train on its tracks. “We spent a lot of time on the road and this song was written to let my wife know everything was on the up and up,” he says. “Night Time Eagle” is the second single from Goodbye L.A., Pinnell’s upcoming album due out October 1 via SofaBurn Records.Glide Magazine premiered “Night Time Eagle” saying “For Pinnell, this tune marks an exciting new direction down yet another real-deal country sound and is only further evidence that he is an artist who is absolutely worthy of widespread acclaim.” Fans can listen to “Night Time Eagle” right now at this link and pre-order Goodbye L.A. ahead of its October 1 release right here.
For vinyl lovers, “Night Time Eagle” will be pressed as a limited run 7-inch release. The primary side of the vinyl will have the album cut of “Night Time Eagle” while the alternate side will house Pinnell’s haunting cover of the 1990 Concrete Blonde classic “Joey” which was released as a stand-alone single in January 2021. “Joey” will not be on Goodbye L.A. therefore this 7-inch will be the only way to own it on vinyl. “Night Time Eagle” will also have its own dedicated, limited edition tee shirt. Both the shirt and the vinyl are available for purchase now at sofaburn.com.

Turning Tides album due out August 27, 2021. Photo: google
Grayson Jenkins’ musical versatility—playing everything from country and bluegrass to rock ‘n’ roll—has helped him create a diverse fan base, and he has built his career on his own, self-funding his projects and doing whatever he has needed to do to keep his music life rolling. A proud Kentuckian—by birth and now, by choice—Grayson Jenkins sings his stories with a shrewd sincerity, a hopeful resignation, and a canny insight into the ways of the world; a world that found him, like many others, putting his life and career on hold for the last year and a half. But now that the world is turning again, Jenkins is ready to reveal a treasure trove of songs with Turning Tides, a full-length album due out August 27, 2021. (Grayson Jenkins, 2021)
Jenkins delivers candor and vulnerability with his signature resonant baritone; powerful enough to fill large halls but still tender enough to cradle his lyrics and deliver them straight into listeners’ hearts. Album-opener, “Mockingbird,” is a bright pop-inflected track whose joyous, rollicking vibe belies the sadness of the story it tells: the end of a relationship, the persistent lingering memories of a lover, and the difficult determination to move on. The Bluegrass Situation caught up with Jenkins to learn more about the tune and its origin. “I had just broken up with my girlfriend of four years and was a bit of a mess,” he said. “I decided to go camping in my van and to see Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan in Milwaukee. The first line for this song came from a bird that was chirping non-stop by my van one morning. I couldn’t get it to leave, kind of like her memory. It was a good trip but I didn’t come back with anything but a broken heart, toll tickets, a sunburn, and this song.” Fans can listen to “Mockingbird” right here and pre-order or pre-save Turning Tides ahead of its August 27 release at this link.
Although Jenkins started recording the album in 2019 and finished it by summer 2020, he held off putting it out during the pandemic, and holding onto the album has been “kind of a life vest of music,” he says. Jenkins calls the album a labor of love, saying, “We recorded the bones of the songs in five days, and then over the course of several months I added to it.” The album features an all-star cast of Kentucky musicians, including Jesse Wells (Tyler Childers), who co-produced the album with Jenkins and played electric guitar, fiddle, and mandolin. With the help of Wells, Jenkins recruited Miles Miller (Sturgill Simpson) for drums and Kenny Miles (Wayne Graham) for bass to round out the core recording group.
The album’s title track rides in on a Dick Dale-like guitar lick before shimmering slide guitar runs provide a bed for Jenkins’ slow-burning vocals; the song evokes the uncertainty that dark times bring and the glimmering rays of anticipation that change brings. With sonic echoes of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “The Ballad of Curtis Loew,” “Turning Tides” cannily rockets from the instrumental bridge into a bright major key. Jenkins points out that for him the primary meaning of the song is “hope and optimism. Like a lot of folks, I’ve dealt with depression and anxiety. Coming out of those hard times is one of the greatest feelings in the world and this song was written about that.” In the end, Jenkins feels just like the character from the song: “Ready for the sun to shine and the tide to turn.”
Like “Turning Tides” and “Mockingbird,” the songs on Turning Tides all tell captivating stories of love and loss, heartbreak, and hope. For Jenkins, the arc of the album follows transitions in his own life—moving into music full-time, emerging into a post-pandemic phase of life, leaving behind one relationship and starting another—and offers perspectives on the changes we all experience in our lives as we move from sadness to joy, from self-denial to self-discovery, from darkness to light.
