Book signing with Paula Disbrowe at Hotel Emma

Paula Disbrowe will be at Hotel Emma’s Larder this Saturday for a book signing. 

Hotel Emma is thrilled to welcome award-winning author, grilling expert, and Austinite Paula Disbrowe to help hotel guests and San Antonians get inspired to fire up something special on the grill. On Saturday, June 1 Paula will be at Larder signing copies of her newest book “Thank You for Smoking: Fun and Fearless Recipes Cooked with a Whiff of Wood Fire on Your Grill or Smoker.” The book signing will take place outside on Larder’s patio from 10a.m. to 1p.m. and is open to the public. Tuesday May 21 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. – Beer & Ice Cream Pairing at Lazarus Brewing Co.
Lick Honest Ice Creams and Lazarus Brewing Co. are kicking off a series of public Beer and Ice Cream Pairing events with one that gives back to charity. Guests will receive five beer samples (5 oz.) with 5 ice cream pairings (1 oz.) of assorted Lick spring flavors. Lazarus and Lick will educate attendees on the pairings while they sip and Lick. Savor at Pearl opens with new class of students

Savor, the latest restaurant by The Culinary Institute of America, is excited to re-open with a new rotation of culinary students after a short hiatus in between semesters. Under the direction of CIA faculty and a new chef, students will continue to prepare and serve dinner as part of their associate degree studies. Sofia Sada Cervantes, a lecturing instructor at CIA who started her food career at La Embajada in Monterrey, Mexico, will now oversee and lead the menu. (The Culinary Institute of America, 2019)

Starting Friday May 10, a new wave of future food stars will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in a real-world sit-down restaurant that promises a seasonal, Modern American menu. The evening dinner menu has refreshed for spring with new items like Young Roasted Chicken with foie gras, truffle honey butter, mushrooms and white beans; Sea Scallop and Octopus, Saffron Risotto with parmesan and chives and Steak Tartare with Chipotle, quail egg and plantain chips. The menu format, which allows guests to build their own customized three or four-course meal, remains. The prices are $39 and $45 respectively. Guests also have the option to have shareable plates at the bar and lounge. A full classic cocktail menu is highlighted as well as a great wine list and local draft beers. Dinner is served from 5:30p.m. to 8p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

On Wednesday, May 8, Whataburger will celebrate the superhero spirit in all of us with an evening of family fun from 5p.m. to 7p.m. Customers can celebrate by dressing up as a superhero. Children 12 and under dressed as a superhero will receive a free kid’s meal and Magic 105.3 will be onsite to join in on the fun. Masskrugstemmen stein holding competition returns to Krause’s Café

Krause’s Café & Biergarten is excited to announce the return of its official Masskrugstemmen competition, a Bavarian stein-holding competition and German sport. The first round of the competition is Saturday, May 4 at 8p.m. and competitions will continue Saturdays, May 18, June 1, June 15, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27, August 3 and August 10, leading up to a finals competition on August 17. A Masskrugstemmen is a traditional beer stein-holding competition that has its roots in Germany. The competition is a Bavarian strongman and strongwoman test where participants hold a liter of German beer by the handle straight out in front of their bodies for as long as they can. The last person still holding his or her liter of beer correctly wins. (Krause’s Café, 2019)

Locals are encouraged to come test their strength while enjoying German steins of beer. Ladies and gentlemen are welcome as there will be rounds for both. Guests can enter the competition for an entry fee of just $20 to receive their choice of Hofbräu beer and astein to go with it. As the competition endures the last person remaining, correctly holding his or her liter of beer, wins. The winners, both male and female, will move on to the Krause’s Finals which will take place on August 17 for one final battle royale to compete for a chance to participate in the Masskrugstemmen at the Hofbrauhaus in New York City. The stein master named as national champion in New York will win a trip to Germany.
