The Classic Theatre will kick off its first outdoor production of the year with the Tony-nominated play, ‘A Doll’s House, Part 2,’ which will run from March 10-27, 2022 and stars local favorites Anna Gangai and Vic Treviño. Outdoor and COVID-safe performances will be held Thursday, Friday, and Sunday evenings at the San Antonio Botanical Gardenbeginning at 7:30p.m. Join us after the opening night performance (Thursday, March 10) for a complimentary glass of champagne, as you meet and mingle with the cast, crew, staff, and board members of The Classic Theatre of San Antonio. The play picks up where the original ‘A Doll’s House,’ created by Henrik Ibsen and embraced by activists throughout the last century, leaves off. And no, you do not have to see the original play in order to enjoy the fiery debate in this rich sequel. Hnath takes away the century-long guesswork of what might have become of our lead character, Nora, after ‘A Doll’s House’ concludes. Wit, artistry, and raw emotion make this piece as impactful as the original drama, especially in this era of “Me too.”

This climactic event — when Nora slams the door on everything in her life — instantly propelled world drama into the modern age. In ‘A Doll’s House, Part 2,’ many years have passed since Nora’s exit. Now, there is a knock on that same door. Nora has returned. But why? And what will it mean for those she left behind?”

Teatro Audaz is proud to present its first-ever mainstage musical of Mariachi Girl, an uplifting bilingual production about reaching one’s dreams. Just in time for Fiesta, the production will feature live Mariachi music for every performance, from March 4-13, by San Antonio’s popular Mariachi Azteca de América. (Teatro Audaz, 2022)
Written by playwright Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, Mariachi Girl features vibrant original mariachi music and lyrics by Héctor Martinez Morales. The March 12 performance will include a special “talkback” with the audience by Schroeder-Arce, the cast, and director. The March 12 performance will also be American Sign Language Interpreted with the help of interpreter Robert Cardoza for attendees and their families who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Mariachi Girl: Ten-year-old Carmencita dreams of being a mariachi singer and one day joining in performance with her father. However, her father clings to a long-held family tradition of male-only mariachis. When Carmencita’s teacher offers her a book about a female mariachi, everything changes for “Cita” as she sees a possibility of her dream becoming a reality. Can she celebrate her own heritage and expand her father’s view of the world?
Weekend performances will be held from March 4-13 with Friday and Saturday showings at 7:30p.m. and Sunday showings at 2p.m. Performances will be held at the Public Theatre of San Antonio’s Russell Hill Rogers Auditorium at 800 West Ashby Place. COVID-19 safety protocols will be put in place with mandatory mask wearing, hand sanitizer stations, and social distancing with seating capacity maxed at 50 percent.

The enchanting moments of a child’s world will be lovingly and humorously displayed when Magik Theatre presents ‘The Snowy Day and Other Stories’ by Ezra Jack Keats from February 12 to March 19, 2022. The musical play will be adapted for the stage by Jerome Hairston and produced by special arrangement with Plays for New Audiences, a division of Children’s Theatre Company. (Magik Theatre, 2022)
Drawing from three of Keats’ beloved works—”The Snowy Day,” “Whistle for Willie,” “Googles!” and “A Letter to Amy”—the production celebrates childhood joys and the challenges of growing up. All of the stories capture the special moment of eye-opening discovery and innocent wonder shared by any child delighted by a snowy landscape.
Surprises abound as Keats’ treasured characters come to life when they experience the magic and boundless possibilities. Peter discovers new and unexpected things every day while witnessing his first snowfall. He and his friends romp and play, starting snowball fights and making snow angels. ‘The Snowy Day’ will feature an all African-American local cast. Keats received the 1963 Caldecott Medal for his collage artwork in this work, which was the first picture book with an African-American protagonist to win a major children’s book award.
The play, which is recommended for ages 3 and up, will be presented every Saturday and Sunday from February 12 to March 19 at Magik Theatre in Hemisfair, 420 S. Alamo in San Antonio. Performance times vary. Programs and dates are subject to change.
Tickets are now on sale. Single tickets are on sale now for $25 per adult and children $20 for ages 3 to 17, educators, military, students and seniors. Children under 2 must sit on an adult’s lap. If a child under 2 uses a seat, even a car or booster seat, the patron must pay for a general-admission ticket. Group rates are available to parties of eight or more people.
Flex passes can be used for any school and public performance. For 10 tickets, the cost is $170 ($17 per ticket, a savings of 32 percent off single ticket prices) and for 20 tickets, the cost is $300 ($15 per ticket, a savings of 40 percent off single ticket prices).
Rescheduled Magik Theatre Performances and Social Distancing Practices: The originally scheduled performance dates for The Snowy Day of January 22 through February 22, were altered to February 12 to March 19, as a safety precaution due to rising local cases of COVID-19.
Magik Theatre also plans to move its production of ‘Selena Maria Sings’ from March 4 to later this fall. Further details to follow.
Magik Theatre will continue to practice its COVID-19 safety policy and update its website and social media accounts accordingly, following the guidelines provided by The City of San Antonio, the Texas Health and Human Services Department, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Magik Theatre’s current safety protocols include masks for everyone over the age of 2 upon entering the building.

Bessler, who has earned the Youth America Grand Prix Outstanding Teacher Award for the past seven consecutive years, is world-renowned for discovering and cultivating young, local talent. Under her guidance, these elite artists have had the privilege to train in some of the world’s best academies including the Royal Ballet School in London, the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia, and the School of American Ballet in New York City, to name a few. Through recognition, awards, and scholarships from the most prestigious ballet competitions and schools in the world for many of its dancers, CBSA has elevated San Antonio to the world stage, making it a strong player in the performing arts world.

Producer Jeffrey Seller and North Park Lexus Broadway in San Antonio announce a digital lottery for ‘Hamilton’ tickets will begin in conjunction with the show’s first performance January 5 in San Antonio at the Majestic Theatre. Only forty tickets will be available for every performance for $10 each. The lottery will open at 10a.m. Friday, December 24, 2021 and will close at 12p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 for tickets to performances January 5-9, 2022. In recent years, he has delivered more than a dozen new albums, released a Top 10New York Times’ bestsellers book, again headlined Farm Aid, an event he co-founded in 1985, been honored by the Library of Congress with their Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, received his 5th degree black belt in Gong Kwon Yu Sul, headlined the annual Luck Reunion food and music festival during SXSW, launched his cannabis companies Willie’s Reserve and Willie’s Remedy, and graced the covers of Rolling Stone and AARP The Magazine. In July 2020, Willie released his album First Rose of Spring – an atmospheric soulful showcase of beautifully-written songs and poignant performances. For 2021, he released a new studio album in February —That’s Life, Willie’s second album of standards and classics made famous by Frank Sinatra (his first, 2018’s My Way, earned Willie the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Solo Album). Chelsea Handler is bringing her Vaccinated and Horny Tour to San Antonio for one night this spring, Saturday, May 14, 2022. Show dates are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 7:30p.m., Friday at 8p.m., Saturday at 8p.m and 2p.m., and Sunday 7:30p.m. and 2p.m. Tickets begin at $45 and are now on sale online through the Majestic Theatre, Broadway in San Antonio, or in person at the Majestic Theatre Box Office.
