County Line Community Band presents Holocaust Remembrance Concert

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, the County Line Community Band will present their Holocaust Remembrance Concert on Sunday, May 5th at 3p.m. at the Lampasas Performing Arts Center on the Campus of Northeast Lakeview College. The band will be joined by the 323rd Army Band, stationed on Fort Sam, to present this touching and inspirational concert. The night will feature moving stories of music and how it served as a source of strength, faith and hope during the Holocaust. (County Line Community Band, 2024)

The story of the composition of Ani Ma’Amin on a train ride to the concentration camp and the secretly defiant performance of Kol Nidrei by the Violinist of Auschwitz are highlighted. Music composed at Auschwitz by imprisoned musicians will be performed and the story of how music was used by the SS to veil the true horror of their purpose are revealed.

This concert will prove to be a discovery of hope and faith through music while simultaneously serving as a source of heartfelt remembrance for those who perished in the Holocaust. The concert is free and open to the public.

Coming up this weekend is the County Line Community Band’s Christmas Concert “Holiday Magic” on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 3p.m. Get in the holiday spirit and enjoy some festive holiday music. The concert will take place in the beautiful Buena Vista Theater on the UTSA Downtown Campus. The concert will feature dances from the Nutcracker Suite, “ ’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” a special guest narrator, and much more. This concert is free and open to the public. Parking is free at the Cattleman’s Square parking lot across the street from the theater. Come out and support community music in San Antonio. (County Line Community Band, 2022)

On Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 3p.m., the County Line Community Band will perform their “Concert Favorites and Solos” in the beautiful Buena Vista Theater on the UTSA Downtown Campus from 3p.m. to 4p.m. This concert will feature world renowned Saxophonist, Dr. Andy Wen and Tyler Neufer, French Horn instrumentalist with the U.S. Air Force Band of the West. The band will also highlight music considered some of the favorites in band literature like, “Funiculi, Funicula,” “Bugler’s Holiday,” “Lassus Trombone,” and more. (County Line Community Band, 2022)

On Sunday, March 20, 2022, the County Line Community Band will perform their “Composers Tribute Concert” in the beautiful Buena Vista Theater on the UTSA Downtown Campus from 3p.m. to 4p.m. This concert will feature music from San Antonio native Charles L. Booker who is a retired US Army Bandmaster and professor of music. Mr. Booker is a nationally recognized composer who recently was commissioned by the Texas Bandmasters Association to write a new composition in celebration of their 75th Anniversary this summer. In related news, the Greater San Antonio Community Bands Association will hold its first ever Community Band Music Festival on Saturday March 26, 2022 from 11:30a.m. to 8p.m. The GSACBA is composed of nine community bands in the San Antonio area and they have all teamed up to present some amazing wind band music for the public. They have partnered with the Beethoven Maennerchor to present this festival on their campus in the King William district. (422 Pereida St, San Antonio, TX 78207). The Greater San Antonio Community Bands Association is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit as recognized by the IRS. It is the overall purpose of the GSACBA to serve community bands with the following specific purposes: synergize the efforts of community bands in the greater San Antonio area, establish and manage the community bands music festival, harmonize efforts for musician recruitment among bands, offer performance planning coordination among bands, organize collaborative ventures with composers and arrangers, spearhead innovative fundraising initiatives and coordinate joint musical performance opportunities.

The County Line Community Band will perform a free “Thanksgiving Concert” this Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 3p.m.  This concert celebrates the many gift we have had during this difficult year and selections will include “Amazing Grace,” “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” and a special tribute to veterans.  It will take place at the St Hedgwig City Park, 1346 FM 1518 St Hedwig, TX  78152 and will abide by strict “social distancing” rules.  The concert will be broadcast on short wave FM radio so attendees can listen to the music in their car while watching the band perform from the safety of their car.  Shakers Smoke Shack BBQ truck will be onsite for any attendees wishing to purchase food.  This concert is free and open to the public. The County Line Community Band is a versatile musical organization that uses the modern concert band repertoire and set up to entertain San Antonio and the surrounding communities.  This versatility allows the band to perform a variety of music in different genres.

D-Day Remembrance Concert at UIW

On Sunday June 2, the County Line Community Band will join forces with the 323rd Army Band, “Fort Sam’s Own,” in a joint performance of their “D- Day Remembrance Concert” at the University of the Incarnate Word at 6:30p.m. in the Luella Bennack Concert Hall. This year marks 75 years since the landings on the Normandy beaches in France that began the liberation of Europe and the eventual end to World War II. As a special part of this concert, the bands will premiere a new musical composition by local composer, Charles Booker, titled “Undaunted Courage” that pays homage to the Service-members who landed on the beaches and gave their full measure of devotion to our country. Commander and Bandmaster of the 323rd Army Band, CW4 Jono Ward and County Line Community Band Director, Toby Knight, would like to invite the public to this first of its kind joint performance between “Fort Sam’s Own” and one of San Antonio’s premier local community bands. This concert is FREE and open to the public. FREE reserved seating can be acquired at eventbrite by searching for “D-Day Concert.” The evening will help remember this monumental event in American History and to honor the Veterans from our greatest generation.
