The County Line Community Band will perform a free “Thanksgiving Concert” this Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 3p.m. This concert celebrates the many gift we have had during this difficult year and selections will include “Amazing Grace,” “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” and a special tribute to veterans. It will take place at the St Hedgwig City Park, 1346 FM 1518 St Hedwig, TX 78152 and will abide by strict “social distancing” rules. The concert will be broadcast on short wave FM radio so attendees can listen to the music in their car while watching the band perform from the safety of their car. Shakers Smoke Shack BBQ truck will be onsite for any attendees wishing to purchase food. This concert is free and open to the public. (County Line Community Band, 2020)

The Briscoe Western Art Museum is offering guests the opportunity to kick back and kick up their heels on the banks of the River Walk with its new Sips and Sounds of the West series. Debuting Friday, October 16 in the museum’s McNutt Sculpture Garden, Sips and Sounds of the West features live music, drinks and food under the stars and the watchful eyes of the fantastic bronze sculptures that call the garden home. The first of the planned quarterly music series features Clint Tomerlin, a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, aspiring author/poet and occasionally funny man who has performed with and opened for artists including Wade Bowen, Bruce Robison and Drew Kennedy. Tomerlin’s music will fill the air as everyone enjoys a socially distanced evening featuring a cash bar with specialty cocktails and tasty treats from food truck Mi Taquito Arandas Jalisco. Doors open at 6:30p.m. with music, drinks and food until 8:30p.m.
Sips and Sounds of the West will take place in the museum’s McNutt Sculpture Garden, a lush public outdoor space featuring a beautiful courtyard surrounded by bronze sculptures that depict iconic figures of the American West. The sculpture garden offers respite during any River Walk visit, with tables, chairs and benches to rest and enjoy the view. With the lights of downtown in the background, the garden becomes magical at night, making it the perfect spot for a date night or a night out with friends.
Advanced tickets for Sips and Sounds of the West are $12 per person and include three drink tickets, as well as an admission ticket to come back and enjoy the rest of the Briscoe during regular museum hours. The event is free for museum members. Space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis to guarantee a safe, socially distanced event and members must RSVP to attend. To safely ensure proper social distances are maintained, groups are asked purchase tickets in one transaction. A minimum of two tickets must be purchased to ensure guests are seated appropriately. Groups of three to five will be seated at a larger round table. Groups of two will be seated at intimate cocktail tables. Tickets will be available at the door but will be $20 per person.

On Saturday September 12, Culinaria will host an outdoor music festival at the Historic Freiheit Country Storeto benefit the Culinaria Hospitality Fund in support of the New Braunfels community. The Culinaria Hospitality Fund provides aid to restaurateurs and furloughed workers. (Culinaria, 2020)
William Clark Green and Statesboro Revue, known for music that redefines rock and roll, headlines the Festival with a performance at 7p.m. Tony Taylor with his country, folk and Americana tunes, opens the day of music with Blue Water Highway, known for Americana roots-rock, at 11a.m., followed by a rock performance at 3p.m. with Austin Gilliam and Mario Flores, Latin Jazz. Tickets are $10 for the 11a.m. and 3p.m. performances and $25 for the finale. A small number of VIP tables are available for the entire day, $300 for a party of four, and $450 for a group of six. Tickets are available online.
Freiheit Country Store is in New Braunfels at 2157 FM 1101. The venue is limiting access to less than half of its capacity and social distancing is required as well as masks when inside or purchasing beverages outside. Between each show, staff will disinfect and sanitize the venue for the next audience.

This year, Luck Productions is bringing Willie Nelson’s annual 4th of July Picnic to the people: part Picnics past, part what is to come and all in the spirit of the Picnic’s storied history. On Saturday July 4 starting at 3:30pm Central, fans will be able to enjoy interviews with characters from the Picnic’s past and see new, live performances from their favorite Luck Family artists. Luck Productions was set to host the 47th annual event, welcoming the Picnic back to its hill country home, and while friends and family will not be crowding into Willie’s Luck, TX, ranch this summer, the man himself will be performing alongside his band from his nearby recording facility, Pedernales Studios. In addition to Willie, performers will include the likes of Sheryl Crow, Ziggy Marley, Margo Price, Steve Earle and Kurt Vile. Tickets for digital admission are $35 ahead of the event and $45 day-of-show are available online.
This July 4th, the Picnic will kick off with a Prime Cuts episode with Chef Scott Roberts of Salt Lick BBQ and special guest Ray Benson, followed by live-streamed performances from Luck’s Saloon and Chapel stages before leading into a 90-minute concert film segment. The film will feature remote performances from Picnic artists, an all-star house band curated by The Texas Gentlemen’s Beau Bedford, featuring Charlie Sexton, John Michael Schoepf, and Josh Blue, and interviews and Picnic memories stitched in throughout. Additionally, SiriusXM’s Willie’s Roadhouse will broadcast the 90 minute stream to subscribers.
Tickets to the event grant access to highly curated food and beverage delivery packages from Assembly Kitchen, Austin Food and Wine Alliance grant recipients, and Sourced Craft Cocktails. One dollar from each ticket sold will support The Luck Reunion Fund, managed by the Austin Community Foundation, directly benefiting five designated organizations. Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, and Karbach Love Street will also be matching donations. Beneficiaries for this event include All Together ATX, Six Square, Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, SIMS Foundation, and Central Texas Foodbank.

This Sunday February 16 from 3p.m. to 7p.m, The Squeezebox will host Santiago Jiménez Jr.’s latest album release party. The puro conjunto album, El Chief, is a collection of songs recorded by producer Adam Ahrens at Magnolia Recording Studio for Bull Calf Records. It features authentic instrumentation of two row button accordion by maestro Jimenez, all recorded in live, real-time recording. Santiago features his father’s original compositions as well as a handful of Conjunto standards. This event is open to the public with $5 tickets at the door. (The Squeezebox, 2020)

Drinks specials will be available all day long as well as a Michelada Bar provided by Twang. Santiago Jiménez Jr. will perform music from his latest album El Chief with a set start time of 4p.m.
Santiago Jiménez Jr. is a San Antonio based folk musician and recipient of the National Heritage Fellowship in 2000 for lifetime achievement in traditional Tex-Mex/folk music. In 2016, he received the National Medal of Arts award for his contribution to American music. This three-time Grammy nominee comes from a family of musical pioneers with his father being Santiago “Flaco” Jiménez Sr. and his older brother, Leonardo “Flaco” Jiménez, who many consider the greatest and most famous Tejano accordionist ever. Santiago recorded his first album with his brother Flaco at age 17, and since then, he has recorded over 700 songs on numerous labels. In 2012, Santiago and Flaco reunited for a performance at the Tejano Conjunto Festival in San Antonio, the first time they were on the same stage since 1982. His latest album titled El Chief will be released in mid-February 2020.

Acclaimed pianist/composer George Winston released his 15th solo piano album, Restless Wind, on May 3, 2019 and is currently on tour. Restless Wind beautifully documents Winston’s sociological observations in American history with renditions of stunningly relevant works by musical greats such as Sam Cooke, The Doors, Stephen Stills, George & Ira Gershwin, Country Joe McDonald and others. He will be performing at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts this month and due to popular demand, a second performance has been added. Performances are set for Saturday February 15 at 8p.m. and Sunday February 16 at 7p.m. at the Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater. Eric Johnson, the Austin, Texas based prolific guitarist, vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist, will release a new studio offering titled EJ Vol II, on February 28, 2020. To celebrate this 11th studio album, Johnson has a 55-date tour planned, spanning nearly 3-months. The tour will hit every major city across the U.S. and will also enter into Canada, for one show in Toronto as well. Locally, he will be performing at the Aztec Theatre on Thursday January 30. With EJ Vol II, he presents new repertoire that combines electric and acoustic arrangements and once again represents a collection of originals with a couple of select covers. Among the new songs, there is deep meaning and messaging with each track, sometimes figurative while at times literal. On “Waterwheel,” he captures personal feelings about the gift of the flow of the spirit and synchronicity of all things under the universe in creation, utilizing the water wheel or an old paddle wheel that turns in water as the metaphorical symbolism. The song “Golden Way,” approaches finding the true higher path in life, while the poignant “For the Stars,” captures his introspection surrounding the loss of his mother as he looks up towards the sky at night wondering where she is now. Along with the 11 original songs there are two covers on the album; The Beatles “Hide Your Love Away” and Eric’s arrangement of Bert Jansch’s take on the traditional “Black Waterside.”
The new 2020 tour titled “Classics: Present and Past” will feature EJ Vol. II alongside selections from his prolific career. The EJ touring band will feature Roscoe Beck on bass (Leonard Cohen, Robben Ford, Dixie Chicks), Tom Brechtlein on drums (Kenny Loggins, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Robben Ford), and on keyboards + second guitar, Dave Scher (a rising star from the Austin music scene).
Among Johnson’s many accolades are a Grammy award for “Cliffs of Dover,” a lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats and his listing among the “100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century” by Musician. In his hometown of Austin, a city full of guitarists, the readers of the Austin Chronicle have voted Eric Johnson the city’s “Best Electric Guitarist” and “Best Acoustic Guitarist” in their yearly poll year after year. They also named him “Electric Guitarist of the Decade” and one of the top five “Musicians of the Decade.”

The 3rd annual EDGE: The Texas Monthly Festival, presented by VisitDallas, is set to take place in Dallas this Friday November 8 through Sunday November 10. The Festival will shed light on Texas culture through unique discussions and performances taking place at some of the best venues in Dallas. The event will feature a Saturday evening concert by Grammy Award-winning recording artist and songwriter Leon Bridges, exclusive interviews with Grammy Award-winning musician and record producer Annie Clark, also known as St. Vincent, and fashion designer and television personality Brandon Maxwell. A special performance of Texas Monthly LIVE featuring Texas Monthly’s talented editors and special guests will also be a part of the festival. General Admission tickets are $50 and available online. The festival will open on Friday with a special edition of Texas Monthly LIVE at the Bomb Factory, the state-of-the-art venue located in the heart of Deep Ellum in Downtown Dallas. During Texas Monthly LIVE, audience members will experience a live issue of the magazine, re-imagined for a theatre audience. The 90-minute presentation uses music, video, and narration to take guests on a storytelling journey showcasing the rich tapestry of Texas. The evening will be hosted by the magazine’s beloved columnist The Texanist (David Courtney).
On Saturday, EDGE will continue with an afternoon of engaging interviews in Canton Hall with Texans who are shaping the national conversation. Featured speakers include Grammy award-winning musician and record producer Annie Clark, also known as St. Vincent, discussing her directorial debut; fashion designer and television personality Brandon Maxwell, and cancer immunotherapy experts Dr. Jim Allison, Nobel Prize winner, and his wife, Dr. Padmanee Sharma. Leon Bridges will headline the evening’s concert with sets by Medicine Man Revival, Keite Young, Jason Robert Burt and DJ Sober. There will be additional performances by Derrius J Harmon (aka Bang) with Nemo and KB, Leap for Grace Dance Company and art created by Israel Vasquez of Studio Real.
Sunday is time for Sunday in the Park, a community-wide outdoor picnic featuring live music, food trucks and an assortment of interactive pop-ups. The picnic will be open to the public in Klyde Warren Park from noon to 3p.m., where EDGE invites all of Dallas to join the fun. The picnic will feature multiple food trucks with food options available for purchase, including Resident Taqueria, hand-picked by Texas Monthly’s Taco Editor José Ralat, who will be serving a limited, one-day-only menu. Guests will enjoy music by 3-piece jazz cover band Royal Dukes Band, a Bar in the Park with beer and wine for purchase, VisitDallas popsicle pushcart, giant games like Connect Four and soccer pool, TVs by Savor that will show the Sunday football games and more.
