On Saturday, August 27 from 9a.m.- 1p.m., “Going to the Dogs,” the Autism Treatment Center (ATC) will host a dog adoption and dog-related shopping event. (Autism Treatment Center, 2022)

Event summary:

  • Whether you are looking for a dog to adopt or just want to shop for the one you have, “Going to the Dogs” has it all. You and your pooch are invited to join the fun at the Autism Treatment Center on Saturday, August 27 from 9a.m. to 1p.m. for this inside event.  Austin Boxer Rescue and Lucky Spot Dog Rescue will have a selection of dogs available for adoption. Austin Boxer Rescue is an affiliate of Lonestar Boxer Rescue, which serves all of Texas and the Austin chapter is the one that serves San Antonio.
  • You can also shop for healthy homemade dog treats and dog-themed gifts, décor, and clothing from partnering vendors. Be sure to bring a photo if you would like to get a custom sketch of your furry best friend.
  • Everyone is invited to visit with dogs that are available for adoption and shop for a variety of dog-related items: healthy homemade dog treats; doggie bandanas and bowties; and dog-themed gifts, home décor, and T-shirts made by adults with autism. We will also have an artist doing custom pet sketches. 
  • Whether you are looking for a dog to adopt or just want to shop for the one you already have, “Going to the Dogs” has it all.    

Why ATC is partnering with the rescue groups:

  • Dogs have a special way of making our lives better.  Everyone can benefit from their unconditional love and companionship and this is especially true for children and adults with autism.
  • That’s why the Autism Treatment Center is partnering with Austin Boxer Rescue and Lucky Spot Dog Rescue for “Going to the Dogs”, a sensory-friendly, pet-friendly adoption and shopping event at our facility on Nacogdoches Rd. on Saturday, August 27th.
  • The adults in ATC’s weekday program have created some dog-related products on sale. The clothing is bandanas and bowties for dogs and T-shirts for people. 
  • In addition, through the weekday program, they also have created wreaths, terrariums, home décor and customize items such as cups, bags, and T-shirts as part of their independent living and live skills training.

Looking for something to do with your dogs this weekend? This Saturday, December 5 from 9a.m. to 12p.m. at the San Antonio Botanical Garden, (555 Funston Place) guests can enjoy the garden’s 38 acres of holiday blooms with their four-legged friends.  So, dress up your fur family in the best holiday attire and join the Deck the Paws Parade as winners from each category will receive a prize.  The event will feature dog vendors and food and drinks will be available for purchase for the humans accompanying the dogs.  Doggy dress up contest categories: Best Costume Overall, Best Dog/Owner, Best Puppy in Costume (for dogs 1 and under) and Best Duo Costume (for dogs with a matching theme). The parade begins at 10a.m. by Mays Family Display Garden and goes around Greehey Lawn.  Doggy Dress Up Contest begins at 10:45a.m. at Greehey Lawn.  Cost: Included with Garden admission + $5 per leashed dog. Members enjoy free admission + $5 per leashed dog. Tickets are available online.

Dog guidelines: All dogs on-site must be current with appropriate shots and registrations. Dogs in heat or aggressive animals may be removed from the Garden at the discretion of management, no refunds.  No dogs will be allowed in the Garden after 12p.m. and all dogs must always be on a leash.  All dogs must remain on pathways. No dogs will be allowed at The Zachary Foundation Culinary Garden, Family Adventure Garden or Children’s Vegetable Garden.

PAWliday pet food campaign

Since 2009, DaisyCares has been helping feed pets of families in need through a partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank. From now through Friday December 20, 2019, DaisyCares is hosting the “PAWliday Pet Food Campaign.” Five years ago, DaisyCares was only serving about 25,000 pets and 10,000 families. Now, DaisyCares serves over 76,000 pets and 29,000 families annually. (San Antonio Food Bank, 2019)

With the holidays fast approaching, DaisyCares is experiencing a higher than normal request for pet food. Now more than ever before, families are faced with tough decisions between putting food on the table or in the bowls of their pets. Programs like DaisyCares help ensure that pets receive the nourishment they need and stay in their family’s home where they belong. Along with food items, DaisyCares is also in need of supplies like new toys/accessories, potty pads and cat litter. Food drop off sites are located throughout the city and include Alamo Heights Pet Clinic, Amigo Animal Hospital and Babcock Hills Veterinary Hospital. A full list of these sites can be found online.

DaisyCares is a 501c3 non-profit organization that helps people care for animals by providing pet food, veterinary care, and animal welfare education to the community. These services help over 76,000 pets and 29,000 pet owners annually.

National Puppy Day celebration at The Shops at La Cantera

The Shops at La Cantera will celebrate National Puppy Day with a tail-wagging good time for pets and the owners who love them. From noon to 4p.m. on Saturday, March 23, enjoy an afternoon of pup-friendly fun including fashions, pet adoptions, puppy brunch, giveaways, photo opportunities, treats and more. Models will grace the runway with furry friends in hand and shoppers will get a first look at new Spring styles. Plus, all pups strutting their stuff on the runway are up for adoption.

The Fashion show is complemented by the malls’ first PUPPY BRUNCH during mall hours at select restaurants offering dining deals for dog owners and well-behaved pets. Enjoy tasty sips and snacks, and of course, play time with the pups on the patios.

The Shops at La Cantera Pet Friendly Policy: Pets are welcome in all mall common areas, except the children’s play area and water fountains. Pet friendly merchants, businesses and dining establishments are identified through “Take One” brochures available at the mall management office and via mall directories and online. Pets must be on a leash and have up-to-date vaccination tags on the collar. For small dogs, using a carrier also is a smart way to go. Dogs must always be under the control of their owner. Guests must clean up after their canine friend. The Shops at La Cantera will provide six waste bag dispenser sites throughout the property.

The Shops at La Cantera Open Container Policy: Per the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, customers of legal age can purchase beer and wine from an on-site establishment with a Beer and Wine Permit and walk with the beverage throughout the property. Currently Luciano’s Pizzeria and Tiny Cantina operate under a Beer and Wine Retailer Permit and have agreed to sell and serve beer and wine in branded plastic cups to customers that wish to walk the mall property with these beverages. Customers will also receive a La Cantera wristband to wear while consuming the beverage on property. Retailers may decide if they want to allow customers to bring drinks into their stores on an individual basis.

Attention pet owners: The Shops at La Cantera is making it easier for the entire family to enjoy their shopping experience because effective immediately, they are going dog friendly. The open-air shopping environment of The Shops at La Cantera, with its lush landscaping and tranquil water elements, provides a natural environment for shoppers and now they also welcome well-behaved pets. Growls & Growlers at Southerleigh

Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery is celebrating its 2nd anniversary and is partnering with Talk About It! SA, the Animal No-Kill program of the San Antonio Area Foundation to host the first annual ‘Growls and Growlers’ event on Saturday April 1 from 9a.m. to 1p.m. This pet adoption event will feature local animal rescue and pet resource organizations that will have about 50 dogs available for adoption and informational pet care advice. This event is free and open to the public and all organization’s adoption regulations and fees will apply. (Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery, 2017)

Participating local organizations will include San Antonio Pets Alive!, San Antonio Humane Society, Alamo City Pit Bull Rescue and Rehabilitation, Animal Defense League, Missy’s Haven, Kriser’s Natural Pet, Pawderosa Ranch and SpaySA. Pawderosa Ranch will be providing complimentary gift cards to anyone who adopts during this event. To celebrate its anniversary Southerleigh will be offering beer specials all day, including pints for $5, 32oz beer growlers for $8 and 64oz beer growlers for $14 with 20% of proceeds going to all participating nonprofit pet organizations.
