On Wednesday, May 8, Whataburger will celebrate the superhero spirit in all of us with an evening of family fun from 5p.m. to 7p.m. Customers can celebrate by dressing up as a superhero. Children 12 and under dressed as a superhero will receive a free kid’s meal and Magic 105.3 will be onsite to join in on the fun. Customers can enjoy a photo booth and enter a raffle where one lucky customer will win free Whataburger for a Year. There will be a special appearance from Whataburger’s mascot, Whataguy. Masskrugstemmen stein holding competition returns to Krause’s Café

Krause’s Café & Biergarten is excited to announce the return of its official Masskrugstemmen competition, a Bavarian stein-holding competition and German sport. The first round of the competition is Saturday, May 4 at 8p.m. and competitions will continue Saturdays, May 18, June 1, June 15, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27, August 3 and August 10, leading up to a finals competition on August 17. A Masskrugstemmen is a traditional beer stein-holding competition that has its roots in Germany. The competition is a Bavarian strongman and strongwoman test where participants hold a liter of German beer by the handle straight out in front of their bodies for as long as they can. The last person still holding his or her liter of beer correctly wins. (Krause’s Café, 2019)

Locals are encouraged to come test their strength while enjoying German steins of beer. Ladies and gentlemen are welcome as there will be rounds for both. Guests can enter the competition for an entry fee of just $20 to receive their choice of Hofbräu beer and astein to go with it. As the competition endures the last person remaining, correctly holding his or her liter of beer, wins. The winners, both male and female, will move on to the Krause’s Finals which will take place on August 17 for one final battle royale to compete for a chance to participate in the Masskrugstemmen at the Hofbrauhaus in New York City. The stein master named as national champion in New York will win a trip to Germany.

The Baked Bear Ice Cream Shop to open first San Antonio location

The Baked Bear, a San Diego California-based ice cream shop well known for its monstrous ice cream sandwiches and original recipes, is excited to announce the opening of its first-ever San Antonio location, coming to The Shops at La Cantera this summer. (The Baked Bear, 2019)

Located in San Antonio’s top luxury shopping district, the menu will feature hand churned ice cream scoops, customizable ice cream sandwiches made with fresh-baked cookies and brownies, fun toppings and more. Pluckers Wing Bar to host NFL Draft Party

On Thursday April 25 at 7p.m., Pluckers Wing Bar will host an exciting NFL Draft Party at all Texas locations. Each Pluckers location will select specific guests to act as a “general manager” for an NFL team in the first round. The “general manager” will be asked to guess who his or her team will draft and if the guess is correct, everyone at that Pluckers location will be eligible for an incredible food or drink special, available only until the next team’s pick. Everyone in attendance at the end of the draft who arrived before the 10th pick is eligible to win a $25 gift card. (Pluckers Wing Bar, 2019)

New this year, all Texas Pluckers’ locations will be competing against each other in the NFL Draft Party. If your Pluckers’ location gets the most correct, five guests will each win a $25 gift card. Specials will include rotating food and drink specials and will go up in value as the draft picks become harder to predict.

Attention Game of Thrones fans: On Friday April 12, Shake Shack San Antonio launched a special Game of Thrones menu nationwide. (Shake Shack, 2019)

In keeping with Shake Shack’s (Rholītso Rhakion’s) commitment to premium ingredients and thoughtful sourcing, the Dragonglass Shake (Zīrtom Perzomy Rholītsos) is a prime example of the Wall to Table movement. Custard is frozen with packed snow harvested beyond the Wall and hand churned by members of the Night’s Watch. Final prep occurs in Winterfell, where the shake is topped with shards of Dragonglass imported from the caves of Dragonstone. Please note supplies are limited as the Wall is currently undergoing major renovations. The Dragon Glass Shake will be available through May 19 at Shacks nationwide (excluding stadiums, ballparks, transit centers and airports).

Shake Shack is also offering a special Dracarys Burger at select Shacks across the United States. The closest Shack location serving the burger are Uptown Dallas and Montrose Houston. Guests can order at Shake Shack, on the app or online.

For the month of April, Hopdoddy Burger Bar invites their customers into The Smoke Show, a month long experience celebrating musicians who march to the beat of their own drum in the spirit of 4/20 and are not afraid to light up for a little inspiration. The Smoke Show menu will be available at all Hopdoddy locations throughout the month of April and will feature items such as the Red Eyed Stranger Burger and the Gin & Juice cocktail. Hopdoddy, like the musicians they celebrate, continues to create original menu items inspired by the artists themselves who made their own way. For this reason, the restaurant will be jamming out to artists who are part of The Smoke Show lighting up with a menu that is certain to get diners into the spirit.

Pluckers to host first Fiesta celebration

Pluckers Wing Bar is hosting their first annual Fiesta celebration at the Selma location on Thursday, April 18. The first 200 Pluckers Club members to arrive and stay for the launch of Pluck Hunt will receive Pluckers’ first-ever limited-edition Fiesta medal. (Pluckers Wing Bar, 2019)

The celebration is family-friendly, with crafts, face painting and more starting at 6p.m. At 7:30p.m., Pluckers will launch their weekly signature game, Pluck Hunt, a scavenger-hunt style game guests can play in their seat. The host will ask teams to complete fun challenges and search for objects on their phones. The top two scoring teams and one randomly chosen team get to roll Pluckers’ giant dice for gift card prizes. Pluck Hunt will take place every Thursday at 9p.m., beginning May 2, at the Selma location.

Pluckers Club, Pluckers’ signature rewards program and membership, offers members a variety of rewards, including, but not limited to, free birthday meals, invitations to exclusive events, food and drink specials and more. On Thursday April 18, COVER 3 is hosting their first-ever medal release party in support of Fiesta San Antonio, which kicks off that same night downtown. Event starts at 4p.m. and will last through 10p.m. for the restaurant and 11p.m. for the bar. (COVER 3, 2019)

Medals are only $10 to benefit the local nonprofit Teed Off At Cancer, who will also have medals available for sale that night, while supplies last. Proceeds go to help support young children diagnosed with cancer. Every $1 per order of fried pickles purchased at the event will also go to this nonprofit. If patrons purchase one of the COVER 3 medals, they automatically become an “Official Margarita Ambassador” and get access to $5 margaritas for the entire night (regular price $7.75).

This is an excellent event for local residents to start their night before heading to the downtown festivities, as well as for those who might be looking to avoid the downtown madness but still want to give back and participate in the annual event.
