Written by Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan, ‘Late Nite Catechism’ made its debut May 28, 1993 at the Live Bait Theatre in Chicago, Illinois and since has grossed over $100 million in box office receipts. It has been presented in more than 410 cities around the world and has played six countries with attendance exceeding 3.5 million people. There have been more than 100 “Sisters” presenting the eight shows now in the series which has raised in excess of $4 million for retired Sisters and Catholic Organizations.

‘Late Nite Catechism’ is an uproarious piece of theater that takes audience members back – sometimes nostalgically, sometimes fearfully to the children they once were. The irrepressible Sister teaches an adult catechism class to a roomful of “students,” the audience. Throughout the play, Sister goes from benevolent instructor, rewarding the “students” for correct answers with glow-in-the-dark rosaries and laminated saint cards, to authoritative drill sergeant. These abrupt mood swings are bound to strike a resonant chord with anyone who survived the ups and downs of going to school, with an omniscient authoritarian at the helm. It was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award in New York and won the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Lead Performance for Maripat Donovan.

‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ is co-written by Mischief Theatre company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields. The play is a riotous comedy about the theatre and introduces The ‘Cornley University Drama Society’ who are attempting to put on a 1920s murder mystery but, as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong does, as the accident-prone thespians battle on against all odds to get to their final curtain call. It is a remarkable rags-to-riches story for a play which started its life at a London fringe venue with only four paying members of the public at the first performance and has gone on to play to an audience of over 2 million people around the world. ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ is directed by Mark Bell, featuring set design by Nigel Hook, lighting design by Ric Mountjoy, sound design by Andy Johnson and costume design by Roberto Surace. Entertainment Weekly calls The Play That Goes Wrong “Hilarious! Non-stop pandemonium.” The Huffington Post calls it “The funniest play Broadway has ever seen!” And the New York Post says it’s “Broadway’s funniest and longest-running play! Nothing is as fall down funny. GO.”

The Tony nominated musical ‘Waitress,’ making its premiere in San Antonio at the Majestic Theatre for eight performances January 8 through January 13, 2019, has cast two young area actresses to take on the role of “Lulu” during its San Antonio engagement. (Broadway in San Antonio, 2018)

Annie Crain, 5, of Cuero, Texas and Georgia Hallmark 4, of Helotes, have been named in the role of “Lulu,” the daughter of the production’s main character. Hallmark attends preschool in Helotes, also has three brothers and her hobbies include coloring, soccer, dance and gymnastics.

Both girls were chosen during an audition process held at the Hotel Valencia, November 12. Sixty girls participated in the auditions, which were presided over by members of the ‘Waitress’ company. The character of “Lulu” will be cast locally in each tour market and two girls are chosen to share the role.

Both girls will alternate the role of “Lulu” throughout the run of the show. Exact performance dates for each girl will be determined later, check the Majestic Theatre website for details.

Inspired by Adrienne Shelley’s beloved film, ‘Waitress’ tells the story of Jenna – a waitress and expert pie maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.
