La Cantera Resort & Spa is having Gingerbread Decorating Parties this month at the San Gabriel Meeting Room to benefit SA YOUTH and children and adults can both participate in this sweet event. La Cantera Resort will provide the home-made, ready to assemble house and resort Pastry Chefs will offer decorating tips while guests provide the creativity. These decorating parties are set for Thursday, December 6 from 7p.m. to 9p.m. and Saturdays, December 8, 15 and 22 from 10a.m. to 1p.m. (La Cantera Resort & Spa, 2018)

Gingerbread Houses are $50 each and may be reserved by calling (210) 558-2247 or emailing the recreation department. Ten dollars from every Gingerbread House purchased will benefit SA YOUTH. SA YOUTH’s mission is to develop the character, strengths, talents and skills of San Antonio’s high-risk urban youth through fun, safe experiences, positive learning environments and holistic programs that inspire everyone to fulfill their potential personally and in the community. Benefit for the Brave at Krause’s Café

This Sunday November 11, Krause’s Cafe and Biergarten will honor Ben H. Dorcy III and local veterans by hosting ‘Benefit for the Brave.’ The evening will be filled with live musical performances, including Cody Canada, Kevin Galloway and more and will run from 5p.m. to 9p.m. Family and friends can enjoy a Sunday evening filled with German food, music and family fun. Tickets start at $25 and are available online. All proceeds will benefit the New Braunfels Area Community Fund and Canada/Kelly Veteran’s Fund which supports and aids Comal County veterans and their family members in need. During the event, active military and vets with ID can take advantage of $15 tickets at the door and half off food.

Krause’s Café is a New Braunfels historic restaurant that opened in 1938 and ran successfully until 1995. Recently it reopened and while keeping true to the original traditions it now has a ‘biergarten,’ live music and more. The menu reflects its German heritage and South Texas flavors while offering over 70 beers that include local, regional and international options as well as cocktails and wines on tap.

This Wednesday October 17 from 5p.m. to 8p.m., Whataburger is hosting a fundraiser to benefit Warren High School Band. The public is invited to come and show their support by enjoying their favorite menu items and during the posted hours, Whataburger will donate 20 percent of the sales to the band. Culinary community unites for fundraiser for Samantha Flores

Chefs for Chefs is rallying the culinary community to unite to raise funds for Samantha Flores, manager at Ramen Bar, who is known for her ‘’great heart.” While riding her bicycle on her way home near Loop 410 and Nacogdoches Road in the early morning hours of Friday September 7, she was injured by a hit-and-run driver. She remains hospitalized and her road to recovery will be long. As her medical bills mount, Chef Michael Sohocki decided to reach out to other Chefs, Culinaria and La Cantera Resort & Spa to rally the community for a benefit to raise funds. (Culinaria, 2018)

This fundraising event will take place on Sunday October 14 from 11a.m. to 2p.m. at Grille 254 at La Cantera Resort and will feature brunch bites from featured chefs along with brunch worthy beverages, a silent auction and complimentary live music by Finding Friday. Tickets are $50 and are available online or onsite the day of the event for $60. If unable to attend but interested in doing more, a donation option is available. Boiler House and Witte Museum host ‘Dinner in the Wild’

Boiler House Texas Grill & Wine Garden has partnered with the Witte Museum for ‘Dinner in the Wild,’ a specialty charity event featuring renowned local chefs. This multi-coursed ticketed dinner will take place on Wednesday March 21 from 6:30p.m. to 9:30p.m. There are a limited number of tickets available online for $250 per person. Guests will be able to experience an exclusive evening of fine dining centered around the “Texas Wildlife” theme, combining ingredients from the state’s land, water and sky. The evening will begin with cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres in the newly transformed Witte galleries, followed by a multi-course twilight dinner created by top local chefs with al fresco style seating options in the Texas Wild Garden space. Participating chefs led by Boiler House Chef Jarrad Gwaltney include Jeff Balfour from Southerleigh, Jason Dady from Tre Trattoria, Tim McDiarmid from Tim the Girl Catering and Anne Ng and Jeremy Mandrell from Bakery Lorraine. Witte Museum curators Helen Holdsworth, Curator of Texas Wild and Dr. Bryan Bayles, Curator of Anthropology and Health, will work with the chefs and their courses to explore the significance of the South Texas region in the past, present and future of the state and how each person can have a profound impact on the stewardship of Texas’ land, water and sky. The event is co-chaired by Emily and Bo Conrad, as well as Carol and Fred Reyes.  Texas’ own singer-songwriter Luis Rey will be providing the evening’s entertainment.

All proceeds from the event go directly towards ensuring all K-12 students on field-trips to the Witte Museum get to experience San Antonio’s official Tricentennial exhibition, ‘Confluence and Culture: 300 Years of San Antonio History.’ This fundraiser covers all aspects of the field-trip costs including buses, gas, general admission and Tricentennial programming for students.

It is time for another community fundraiser.  Whataburger periodically hosts events to help the community and its various schools. These events have ranged from “Oh Whata Nights” to jalapeño eating contests, drawings and raffles. This Wednesday January 31 from 5p.m. to 8p.m., Whataburger is hosting a fundraiser for Redland Oaks Elementary School PTA. The public is invited to come and show their support by enjoying their favorite menu items and Whataburger will donate 20 percent of the sales during the posted hours to the organization. There will also be a photo booth, prizes for the first 100 guests and giveaways, as well as a visit from Whataburger’s mascot, Whataguy. In addition to fundraising, the event will also include the popular Whataburger for a Year drawing, where one customer’s name will be drawn to win a free Whataburger each week for an entire year. Pinch Benefit Boil at Pinch Boil House and Bia Bar

The San Antonio community is gearing up for fundraisers to benefit those affected by Hurricane Harvey. On Saturday September 2, Pinch Boil House and Bia Bar is hosting a fundraiser event with Estate Coffee. Pinch Boil House and Bia Bar is a new restaurant set to open next month that will serve Southeast Asian-inspired seafood, street food and beer. The owners, Sean, Andrew and Brian are from Houston and on a mission to support their friends, families and anyone who has been affected by this hurricane. (Pinch Boil House and Bia Bar, 2017)

On Saturday September 2 from 12p.m. to 3:30p.m., guests can visit the restaurant and purchase large shellfish platters for $30. The platters feeds two people and includes shrimp, mussels, local sausage, corn, potatoes, Texas toast and Pinch’s original garlic butter sauce. Estate Coffee will also be selling Vietnamese Iced Coffees. This event is BYOB. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross. The benefit will also have donation jars for anyone wishing to contribute directly to the organization.

Pinch Boil House and Bia Bar will officially open for business on Friday September 8, 2017. The restaurant features and encourages communal dining with its family-style food and promotes a lively atmosphere reminiscent of a crawfish boil experience. It was originally formed as pop-up crawfish boils to support a fun environment for families and communities to enjoy food deeply rooted in Asian culture.
