🎤 The Lineup

Featured Music Acts

Tameca Jones

A long-time favorite in San Antonio, Texas soul singer and songwriter Tameca Jones has shared stages with heavy hitters like The Black Pumas, Gary Clark Jr., Leon Bridges, and Willie Nelson. You might recognize her emotive single “Sandman” from Hulu’s Black Cake, or her Adele-influenced single “So Gone” off her highly anticipated debut album, Plants & Pills (2024). Tameca is currently working on her follow-up album, slated for 2027.

Blackillac

Voted Austin Music Award’s “Best Hip Hop/Rap 2020,” this southern duo is making serious waves. Formed in 2018 by rappers ZEALE and Phranchyze under the guidance and production of 4x Grammy winner Gary Clark Jr., Blackillac built their roots in Willie Nelson’s historic Arlyn Studios. Releasing new tracks monthly, the duo is getting ready to drop their debut album featuring long-awaited collaborations with Clark Jr.

Eric Tessmer

Dubbed the “Best Guitarist in Austin” by The Austin Chronicle and a “working-class guitar hero” by the Austin American-Statesman, Tessmer is an Austin-based blues force. Inspired by Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, his sound is dark, moody, and packed with an edgy guitar virtuosity you have to hear live.

SANA SANA

SANA SANA is a cross-cultural musical experience formed by three artists whose lives were shaped by borders both visible and invisible. Their nostalgic, rhythm-rich sound reflects the nuance of being raised in the U.S. by Latino parents and immigrants—capturing the feeling of existing between two homes. It’s music made for anyone who lives in the “in-between.”

Abomic Toms

Hailed as Los Angeles’ bright new rising stars, rock & roll trio Abomic Toms recently opened for legends Billy Idol and Joan Jett at the LA Forum. Composed of Brandon Bernath (vocals/bass), Ashley Valentine (drums), and Willem Wolfe (guitar)—son of Billy Idol himself—the band is proving that rock-and-roll excellence runs in the family.

James Bullard

Raised in West Texas and bouncing between Austin and L.A. since 1999, James Bullard comes from a deeply musical family, performing since age five. Over the last decade, he has collaborated extensively with West Coast and Texas songwriters. Now residing in Austin, he continues to bring rich, authentic songwriting to the stage.

Featured Comedians

Nacya Marreiro

A multi-talented comedian, actress, and writer, Nacya has taken her stand-up worldwide—from NYC’s The Stand to LA’s Laugh Factory and The Comedy Store, as well as Austin’s Creek and the Cave. You can catch her 2021 YouTube comedy special or check out her lead role in the Amazon Prime comedy film “Moving Valentine.”

Chris Tellez

Known for his dark, dry wit and masterful storytelling, Chris Tellez is a comedian to watch. Recently featured on Comedy Central, Chris has performed at top festivals including Colossal Clusterfest, Moontower, and Oddball. He’s shared the stage with comedy giants like Nate Bargatze, Nick Thune, and Big Jay Oakerson.

Within the last few years, the Red Bull founded project has become the world’s biggest international freestyle battle competition, uniting Spanish speaking Latin America and Spain. The roots of this improvised rap scene are as deeply connected to hip hop as they are to the improvisation styles of traditional folk troubadours. It has evolved into a style completely distinct from that of hip hop in North America. With Batalla, Red Bull gives an opportunity for young MCs to train, perform and improve their improvisation and rapping skills.

The Thursday event is free to attend for music fans of all ages, although limited space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fans are encouraged to RSVP to reserve their spot in advance.

Thursday night’s showcase will feature eight of the most dynamic Spanish-language lyricists that the USA has to offer, each of whom has held a championship title and was personally invited to participate in this special bracket-style tournament.

Participants representing Texas and beyond will travel to San Antonio to flex their lyrical skills and compete for the crown as they battle bar-for-bar. The initial list of participating MCs for the San Antonio Exhibición is listed below (in A-Z order):

Cuban (Texas)
Jordi (Texas)

Plus additional surprise guest MCs from Mexico and one to-be-announced competitor based on results from the TX Cup Championship in early April.

Omar Cadena, better known as Fluffy The Host will be hosting this San Antonio competition. DJ Lobo of the Texas-based Spanish-speaking rap battle league, Urban Rapstars, will serve as the official DJ for this event, with DJ Vinny set to perform as an opener.

Once the freestyle rap battling concludes, Texas’ very own Latin DJ collective and perpetual party-starters Peligrosa will close out the event with a special collaborative performance.

Throughout the evening event, patrons will be treated to several tasty cocktail concoctions curated by Red Bull, as well as free haircuts and beard trims courtesy of some of San Antonio’s premier barbers and hair stylists. Following this event, there will be two more opportunities for aspiring MCs to compete in a series of regional cups and qualifier events across the country leading up to the USA National Final this fall and ultimately the 2023 World Final. Throughout these exciting proceedings, aspiring MCs will compete in one-on-one knockout battles to show off their best rhymes, wordplay, stage presence, and more as they battle amongst the best and most prestigious Spanish-speaking freestylers across the globe.

Since 2005, Red Bull Batalla has provided a platform for the best hip-hop improvisers in the Spanish-speaking world to connect, develop, and compete. Last December the historic Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City hosted the 2022 International Final where Mexico’s national champion Aczino took the title, making history as the competition’s first-ever triple World Champion.
