The owners of Grupo Bovino’s are bringing its mouth-watering Brazilian steakhouse concept ─ Bovino’s Churrascaría ─ to the United States, opening its first location on Tuesday, January 26, in San Antonio, at The Shops at La Cantera. From its opening through February 28, a portion of proceeds will benefit Culinaria, a not-for-profit organization committed to promoting San Antonio as a culinary destination and supporting the hospitality community during times of financial hardship. (Bovino’s Churrascaría, 2021)

Conceived in Cancun, the company opened its first eatery in the popular tourist destination in May 2009. Six years later, the company opened in Playa del Carmen. Menu highlights include the best all-you-can-eat prime meat cuts and gourmet specialties from ceviche, paella, cold-cuts, jumbo shrimp, lobster, oysters, octopus, salads, gourmet cheeses, pastas, breads, and savory desserts. Full-service bar boasts an extensive selection of cocktails, wine, and beer options to complement the palate.

Bovino’s Churrascaría will have elements familiar to its restaurants in Mexico: brick walls, dark hardwoods and a mix of contemporary and traditional décor combine to offer sophisticated ambience for dining indoors or out. Take-out and curbside dining is also available.

Due to COVID-19 requirements, the Bovino’s buffet will be available via menu and delivered to your table by your server. The health and safety of our diners and staff is our highest priority. We are following the lead of city, state, and federally elected officials, as well as implementing strategies recommended by public health authorities. We are distancing guest, require masks be worn, and are taking extra precautions to clean and sanitize the establishment frequently throughout the day, not only the dining area, but behind the scenes in the kitchen and prep spaces, including equipment.

“We are thrilled to have found the ideal environment for our concept at The Shops at La Cantera. Its open-air lifestyle with retail and lush surroundings is a destination that caters to locals and tourists.” – Dev Bassnet, general manager for Bovinos, San Antonio.

Pluckers Wing Bar, Texas’ favorite sports bar and wing restaurant, will officially open its second San Antonio location in the Landmark Center at 15651 I-10 W on Monday, July 8. The new San Antonio location will be open daily from 11a.m. to 12a.m. and will feature the iconic Pluckers menu, including fan favorites Fried Pickles, Holy Macaroni, The Bypass Burger topped with bacon, cheddar, grilled onions and jalapeños and the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. Pluckers will also offer their famous wings paired with signature sauces Buffalo, Spicy BBQ, and Spicy Ranch, along with unique flavors, like Fire in the Hole, Ginger Peach Sriracha, Gochujang, and Spicy Mandarin.

All this week, the new Pluckers Wing Bar has been opening their doors to the public during their training shifts for lunch and dinner. With today being a holiday, I had the opportunity to see the new location for myself during lunch. The line of people waiting to get in was not long but by lunchtime, they had seen approximately 375- 400 people. While waiting at the bar for a table, I tried the tasty Strawberry Margarita and once able to order food, I tried the Pluckers Nachos, tortilla chips topped with chicken (on the side, for my taster), queso, Honey BBQ sauce, red onions and cilantro. Everything was delicious and the inside is spacious with plenty of televisions for a sports bar. The managers on site, Courtney, Jason, Morgan and Keegan had service running smoothly and server Myranda and her trainer Tra were helpful and polite. Looking forward to a return trip to try the Impossible Burger.

Once open, the new restaurant will offer Pluckers’ signature rewards program, Pluckers Club, for just $10 until July 21. Pluckers Club members enjoy a variety of rewards, including, but not limited to, free birthday meals, invitations to exclusive events, food and drink specials and more. After July 21, Pluckers Club memberships will cost $20. The Pluckers club membership is now available through the app on iTunes and Google Play – a treat for current and aspiring members. As Pluckers continues to open new stores, they are expanding their platform via social media and the app that connects, serves, and grows with their fans.

Burgerteca official grand opening

Burgerteca officially opens to the public on Monday December 4, 2017. Photo: Josie Rees, used with permission.

Locally renowned Chef Johnny Hernandez’ new restaurant, Burgerteca, is having its official grand opening on Monday December 4, 2017. Burgerteca is a never-done before burger concept influenced by Mexican cuisine. The custom-made burgers are made with ingredients and flavors distinct to traditional Mexican food such as chiles, spices, moles, queso, flavors like al pastor, pibil and chilaquiles on hamburger yeast buns baked fresh daily. Business hours are Sunday from 11a.m. to 4p.m., Monday through Thursday from 11a.m. to 10p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11a.m. to 11p.m. (Burgerteca, 2017)

Having traveled extensively through Mexico, Hernandez’s burger menu is inspired by and themed with flavors native to Oaxaca, Puebla, Veracruz and Yucatan.  The menu includes items such as the ‘Oaxaqueña,’ an Angus beef patty dressed with mole negro, black bean spread, pickled onions, avocado and queso fresco, and the ‘Pacifica,’ made with seared tuna topped off with chipotle-lime mayo, cabbage slaw, sesame seeds, avocado and tomato.

Burgerteca also includes an on site ice cream shop where guests who prefer take-out can walk up to the counter and conveniently order treats to go without having to sit down. The frozen Mexican desserts on the menu include items such as paletas – fresh fruit popsicles, nieves – traditional Mexican ice cream and raspas – shaved ice made with seasonal, from-scratch syrups. Other unique menu items include the house made signature ice cream nachos—Mexican buñuelos piled high with ice cream, fresh fruit syrups and Oaxacan chocolate fudge. It will also have local craft beer and spirits, like a creative Mexican rum cocktail program.

The décor is inspired by the imaginative and colorful work of Pedro Linares, who created the art known as “Alebrijes,” an art form famous in Oaxaca. The interior includes hand selected custom designed chairs, hand forged chandeliers and large slabs of wood for communal dining.
