The Squeezebox announces inaugural Fajita Lounge Showdown

The Squeezebox is excited to announce its inaugural “Fajita Lounge Showdown” featuring five local chefs competing head-to-head for the title of “Best Fajita Tacos” in San Antonio. All summer long The Squeezebox has been throwing Sunday carne asadas that have become the popular Fajita Lounge adored by all its fans with free fajita tacos for all customers, hosted by Chefs Aaron Peña, Matt Garcia and Jake Gonzales. This event will take place on Sunday, September 4, 2022 and door open at 8p.m. (The Squeezebox, 2022)

To commemorate the Labor Day holiday weekend, a competition will take place with five local chefs featuring their best take on the fajita taco. With a $10 cover at the door, tacos will be free for all on a first come, first served basis and will feature the following chefs:

  • Kenny Loo of Golden Kirin Restaurant  
  • Sergio Flores of La Tortuga Cocina Latina 
  • Eddie Barrera of Sijang Korean Corn Dogs  
  • Rory Torres of Crispy Bao Gang
  • Steve Lopez 

In addition to traditional fajita tacos, a “wildcard protein delicacy” will also be provided to test out the chefs’ creativity. The chefs will compete for a grand prize of $500, with Peña, Garcia and Gonzales as the judges. Live music by local favorite The Texases will keep the party going as well as music by DJ Plata. The Texases will play at 9:30p.m. This event will have a $10 cover per person at the door, must be 21 or older.

The Squeezebox announces Fiesta Packs To Go

Fiesta may have been postponed but San Antonians can still get their Fiesta fix this week. The Squeezebox is announcing “A Night in Old SQZBOX” with Fiesta Packs To Go for customers to enjoy at home. The package options include a 6 pack of beer plus Fiesta food favorites like Chicken on a Stick, Gorditas, Footlong Sausage and Footlong Corndog. The Fiesta foods will be catered by Berna’s Street Food. All packages include a FREE Twang Michelada Kit and Beer Salt. (The Squeezebox, 2020)

Availability will be on a first come, first served basis (pre orders have closed). 100 percent no contact pick-up. Payment only via debit and credit card. Pick ups will be available Thursday, April 23 through Saturday, April 25 from 6p.m. to 10p.m.

Santiago Jiménez Jr. new album launch party at The Squeezebox

This Sunday February 16 from 3p.m. to 7p.m, The Squeezebox will host Santiago Jiménez Jr.’s latest album release party.  The puro conjunto album, El Chief, is a collection of songs recorded by producer Adam Ahrens at Magnolia Recording Studio for Bull Calf Records. It features authentic instrumentation of two row button accordion by maestro Jimenez, all recorded in live, real-time recording. Santiago features his father’s original compositions as well as a handful of Conjunto standards. This event is open to the public with $5 tickets at the door. (The Squeezebox, 2020)

The celebration will feature free Fideo Loco provided by The Cookhouse’s GM Matt Garcia while supplies last. Drinks specials will be available all day long as well as a Michelada Bar provided by Twang. Santiago Jiménez Jr. will perform music from his latest album El Chief with a set start time of 4p.m.

Santiago Jiménez Jr. is a San Antonio based folk musician and recipient of the National Heritage Fellowship in 2000 for lifetime achievement in traditional Tex-Mex/folk music. In 2016, he received the National Medal of Arts award for his contribution to American music. This three-time Grammy nominee comes from a family of musical pioneers with his father being Santiago “Flaco” Jiménez Sr. and his older brother, Leonardo “Flaco” Jiménez, who many consider the greatest and most famous Tejano accordionist ever. Santiago recorded his first album with his brother Flaco at age 17, and since then, he has recorded over 700 songs on numerous labels. In 2012, Santiago and Flaco reunited for a performance at the Tejano Conjunto Festival in San Antonio, the first time they were on the same stage since 1982. His latest album titled El Chief will be released in mid-February 2020.

The Squeezebox to host Familia, Food & Oldies this Sunday

This Sunday December 15 at 6p.m., The Squeezebox will be hosting “Familia, Food & Oldies,” a holiday celebration. The event will include FREE cabrito tacos while supplies last and all the accompanying sides, prepared by local chef Teddy Liang. DJ Aaron Peña will be spinning oldies all night. Bar offerings include happy hour prices all night long as well as FREE Michelada upgrades by local family company Twang, featuring their recently launched Reserve Michelada Cocktail Mix. Starting on Tuesday December 10, The Squeezebox is also launching Karaoke Nights hosted by local Karaoke DJ Nicki Martinez. Karaoke Nights will be every Tuesday from 10p.m. to 2a.m. and will include happy hour pricing at the bar all night long.
