Current Joys Debuts New Single ‘Halloween’ Ahead of Rosebud LP

Producer and musician Nick Rattigan has released ‘Halloween,‘ the final preview single ahead of his forthcoming album Rosebud (out Friday, November 6 via They Are Evil / Stem). (another side, 2026)

Each single leading up to the release has featured a visual directed by a different filmmaker, giving every track a distinct identity within the broader cinematic universe of Rosebud.

A Nod to Artistic Freedom

“Halloween” pays homage to Rattigan’s early days of uploading tracks under his The Nicholas Project and TELE/VISIONS monikers to Bandcamp. Above all, the single serves as a celebration of the profound artistic freedom that Rosebud represents.

“Rosebud is a departure. But then, every Current Joys record is a departure.”

Rattigan’s solo catalog seamlessly blends folksy acoustic arrangements inspired by the Grateful Dead with noisy hyperpop, darkwave, and whatever else catches his creative curiosity.

Key Milestones at a Glance

  • Accolades: Triple-Platinum and Gold Record certifications; member of Spotify’s Billions Club (via Surf Curse).
  • Discography: 8 studio albums, 5 EPs, and extensive global tours.
  • Collaborations: Lil Yachty, Polo Perks, Matt Proxy, and more.
  • Cultural Impact: His hit “Kids” (which originally went viral 11 years ago) reemerged alongside “Televisions” in this year’s cult horror film Obsession.

Inside the Sound of Rosebud

Written and recorded during a challenging period, Rosebud originally started as half an hour of slowcore songs Rattigan found difficult to stomach. Inspiration struck while collaborating with experimental hip-hop artists and producers, including a session with Matt Proxy where Rattigan met producer Danny Dwyer (who records as never goodbye).

Watching Dwyer dial in tracks using layers of glitches, distortion, and digital manipulation transformed Rattigan’s approach:

  • Maximalist Production: Anthemic choruses, sticky OC punk chord progressions, and foamy curtains of static.
  • Genre Collision: Elements of nu-metal, screamo, electronica, hip-hop, power-pop, and darkwave.
  • Vulnerability Meets Dissonance: Underneath the redlined noise and pop hooks sit tender, bummed guitar arpeggios that anchor the album’s emotional core.

The final result is a punchy, reinvention-heavy project completely unlike anything in his previous catalog.
