Twang celebrates 35 years in business

Twang celebrates 35 years in business with the addition of two new Michelada flavors: Spicy and Pickle. Photo: Twang, used with permission.

Twang Partners, Ltd. is excited to announce the launch of two new flavors of its Twang Reserve Michelada Cocktail Mix. The new flavors include spicy and pickle flavored mixes. The two additions come on the tails of the brand’s success with the launch of its original Twang Reserve Michelada Cocktail mix in 2019. The two new flavors, as well as the original mix, are now available for purchase on Twang’s website or at SPECS locations across Texas.

The michelada mix formula is 85% juice-based and uses all natural ingredients including a seven-vegetable blend, organic Worcestershire sauce, ancho chilies, real lime juice, and no preservatives or corn syrup. The Spicy Twang Reserve Michelada Cocktail Mix includes notes of serrano peppers and extra hot sauce to give it an additional kick, while the Pickle Twang Reserve Michelada Cocktail Mix is made with real dill and cucumber to give it an authentic pickle flavor. Both new flavors are available in 16oz. bottles and retail for $5.00 plus tax and the price of shipping on Twang’s website.

“We are really proud of the response we received from our original michelada mix, and we’re looking forward to getting the new flavors out there for everyone to enjoy. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate 35 years in business other than to keep expanding and sharing the recipes our family loves.” – Elysia Treviño-Gonzales, Chief Executive Officer for Twang.

Twang’s line of michelada mixes are high-quality, tomato-based blends used to quickly and conveniently create the perfect michelada, the popular beer cocktail that is native to Mexico, popular in Texas, and quickly gaining notoriety throughout the United States. The prepared mix works best with Mexican beers and domestic lagers and is commonly referred to as a milder version of its American cousin, the Bloody Mary.

Twang is a family owned and operated business based in San Antonio, Texas. In 1986, Twang Founder and CEO Roger Treviño, Sr., left his career in law enforcement to embark into the food industry, starting the business out of his garage with his children. This April, the business celebrated 35 years of sharing the family’s culture through food and beverage spices, salts and mixes. The launch of the original michelada mix in 2019 was the company’s first venture into liquid products and the company plans to continue expanding its product offerings. Today, daughter Elysia serves as the CEO, son Patrick is acting Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, and youngest son Jacob is a Key Account Executive.

Based in San Antonio, Texas, Twang Partners Ltd. is a family-owned and operated creator and manufacturer of premium-flavored salts, sugars and seasonings and credited as being “The original beer salt.” Since 1986, Twang Partners has produced the highest quality products designed to enhance the taste, appearance and enjoyment of food and beverages. eTown is celebrating 30th b’Earthday with a virtual celebration on April 22. Photo: google

It has been 30 busy and productive years since the launch of eTown, the world-renowned radio show turned full-blown multimedia nonprofit. In honor of 30 years of great live music paired with social and environmental programming, eTown is throwing a party for the ages, honoring both its 30th birthday and eTown’s induction into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame.  (eTown, 2021)

On Earth Day 2021, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, eTown’s 30th b’Earthday Celebration will air via live stream and feature performances from Los Lobos, The War and Treaty, Lyle Lovett, Bob Weir, Sam Bush, City and Colour, and Raquel Garcia. Former U.S. Senator and environmental advocate, Tim Wirth, will join for the conversation portion of the livestream. For more information on the b’Earthday Celebration including lineup additions, how to become a supporter of eTown, or to check out past shows and performances, please visit eTown online.

“Helen and I started eTown in ’91 determined to try something new, to make a different kind of show, one that mixed music and message. It took us a while to find our voice and our place in the media landscape, but over the last three decades, we’ve not only presented—and played—a ton of remarkable live music, we’ve also shared really inspiring conversations and stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things on behalf of our shared environment.”  – eTown Founder and Host, Nick Forster

Before eTown, Nick toured and recorded for decades with IBMA Entertainers of the Year and Grammy nominees Hot Rize, amongst others, while Helen Forster made her mark as a co-owner and producer of the world famous Telluride Bluegrass Festival, while also performing herself.  This husband and wife team have taken everything they have seen, felt, and learned about music, the environment, and humanity and put it into practice through 30 years of remarkable eTown shows.

Join Nick, Helen, and the rest of the eTown crew and community on April 22 to celebrate their amazing milestone in the only logical way: engaging song and conversation.

eTown, the internationally syndicated radio broadcast, podcast, and multimedia- and events-production nonprofit, launched on Earth Day 1991 in Boulder, Colorado. Since then, eTown has produced musical, social, and environmental programming all focused on its ongoing global mission—to educate, entertain, and inspire a diverse audience through music and conversation to create a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable world. Prior to the pandemic, eTown recorded shows in front of a live audience in eTown Hall, a 17,000 square foot former church in downtown Boulder which has been renovated and transformed into a solar-powered performance and recording facility—likely the only zero-carbon facility of its kind in North America. Recently, eTown pivoted to all-virtual episodes.

Independence Brewing Co releases beer to spark voter engagement

Independence Brewing Co announced the release of Freak Power, a new blood orange hefeweizen. Photo: Julia Keim, used with permission.

Ahead of its sixteenth anniversary, Independence Brewing Co. announced the release of Freak Power, a new blood orange hefeweizen named in honor of Hunter S. Thompson’s groundbreaking campaign for sheriff of Aspen in 1970. The beer will debut just in time to kick off the voter registration period for Texas residents ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Just as Thompson created the “Freak Power Party” to inspire fellow “freaks” to vote, Independence Brewing aims to inspire the inner freak in all of us to participate in our democracy.  (Independence Brewing Co., 2020)

Freak Power is part of Independence Brewing’s upcoming initiative to help spread political awareness and civic engagement among eligible voters in markets where their beer is sold. As part of the Freak Power rollout, team members will be deputized as volunteer voter registrars for Travis County and the South Austin brewery will host voter registration drives ahead of Texas state elections on November 3, 2020. In addition to the brewery’s efforts in Austin, Independence Brewing’s sales representatives throughout the state will organize promotional events at local bars and retailers and assist on-site voter registration.

The recipe for Freak Power is a twist on the classic Bavarian hefeweizen, balancing the sweet clove esters with the citrusy tang of blood orange. The result is a hef that starts like a traditional German wheat beer and ends with a crisp finish that does not linger too long on the palate. It pairs best with light, starchy, and lemony foods, and at 5.4% ABV, Freak Power is an ideal candidate to engage and mobilize voters of all stripes without clouding their judgment.

The seasonal brew is available through November at the taproom and at local retailers throughout Texas. The can will be easy to spot, too. Bright pink and orange graphics against a matte-black backdrop will make this beer a standout on store shelves.

Independence Brewing Co. is a local craft beer brewery and taproom located in Southeast Austin, Texas. Founded by Amy & Rob Cartwright in 2004, Independence Brewing Co. has grown from a small mom, pop, and dog operation to a team of 40 people producing more than 17 thousand barrels a year with distribution throughout Texas, Arkansas, and Colorado. Independence Brewing Co. is now one of the largest, longest-standing, and most beloved breweries in Central Texas.

Independence’s core lineup includes Austin Amber, Native Texan Pilsner, Power & Light Session IPA, Redbud Berliner Weisse, Convict Hill Oatmeal Stout, and the brand’s top-selling beer, Stash IPA. These beers and several seasonal/limited releases are available to be enjoyed in a laid-back, industrial-style tasting room with views of the beer-making process set to live music from local musicians. Birds Barbershop offers beers exclusively from Independence Brewing Co. in all nine of their locations across Texas.

“Now, more than ever, we need to encourage each other to speak up and enact change. The 2020 election is a critical moment for our nation and will set the political agenda for the coming years. With Freak Power, we sought to create something that ignites enthusiasm the way Hunter S. Thompson did back in 1970.” – Amy Cartwright, President and Co-Founder of Independence Brewing Co.

Independence Brewing Co. releases beer to spark voter engagement

freakpower
Independence Brewing Co. released Freak Power, a new blood orange hefeweizen to kick off the voter registration period in Texas. Photo: Julia Keim, used with permission.

Ahead of its fifteenth anniversary, Independence Brewing Co. announced the release of Freak Power, a new blood orange hefeweizen named in honor of Hunter S. Thompson’s groundbreaking campaign for sheriff of Aspen in 1970. The beer debuts just in time to kick off the voter registration period for Texas residents ahead of state elections in 2019 and national elections in 2020. Just as Thompson created the “Freak Power Party” to inspire fellow “freaks” to vote, Independence Brewing aims to inspire the inner freak in everyone to participate in our democracy. (Independence Brewing Co., 2019)

Freak Power is part of Independence Brewing’s upcoming initiative to help spread political awareness and civic engagement among eligible voters in markets where their beer is sold.

It pairs best with light, starchy, and lemony foods, and at 5.4% ABV, Freak Power is an ideal candidate to engage and mobilize voters of all stripes, without clouding their judgment. As far as the taste is concerned, Head Brewer Brannon Radicke states – “The tanginess of the citrus cuts a little bit of that sweetness and dries out the finish. Plus, the fruitiness of the blood oranges pairs nicely with the style’s signature clove and banana esters.”

The seasonal brew is available through September at the taproom and at local retailers throughout Texas. The can will be easy to spot since the bright pink and orange graphics against a matte-black backdrop will make this beer a standout on store shelves.

“The design decisions for Freak Power are inspired by ideas and aesthetics tied to the free thinkers and radical minds of the late 60s,” said designer Lauren Dickens. “The color palette and energetic rays behind the illustration are a nod to the burst of blood orange flavor in the beer.”
