Fast Eddie’s, the largest group of billiards halls in the U.S., is celebrating its 20th anniversary with six months of festivities happening on the first Friday of each month from August 2018 through January 2019. The October “Squeaky Clean” party is the third event of the anniversary series, featuring craft cocktails with locally-made vodka and a free-entry, single-player Broomstick Pool Tournament (brooms provided). It will take place on Friday October 5 from 8p.m. to midnight at all Fast Eddie’s Billiards & Sports Bar locations. One lucky winner will be awarded a $3,000-value prize from the event. Mariachi Lab: Ole Edition at Pearl

Mariachi Lab at Pearl returns for a new Olé, San Antonio edition with local artists and Spanish guitarist Luis Gallo. The second annual Mariachi Lab will take place on September 16 from 1p.m. to 8p.m. in a day-long and campus-wide finale to Olé, San Antonio, Pearl’s summer-long initiative celebrating the city’s cultural connection to Spain. Mariachi Lab showcases mariachi talent from San Antonio, from youth to top-level performers, along with interactive workshops and activities for children. (Pearl, 2018)

Las Mujeres Showcase in the Pearl Stable is a ticketed event and new to this year’ s event. This headlining show will feature a collaboration between Vanessa Del Fierro of Las Coronelas and renowned Spanish guitarist Luis Gallo. Madrid-based Gallo performs on an international circuit and is one of the most acclaimed guitarists in the flamenco scene. He hails from Madrid, Spain and is well-versed in jazz, classical and flamenco genres and one of the most acclaimed guitarists in the flamenco scene. Gallo performs on an international circuit while remaining firmly rooted to his Spanish origins. His latest project – Caminos de la Guitarra (“Paths of Guitar”) – traces the historical journey of the guitar back to 15th century Spain.

Pearl is partnering with area high schools, San Antonio Mariachi Academy, Guadalupe Cultural Arts and the Consulate General of Mexico. In addition to live performances, workshops and activities, Pearl will feature vendors such as Mr. Piñata and Snake Hawk Press. Restaurants will also feature different specials that day to celebrate Olé’s finale.

Mariachi Lab performances are free and open to the public except Stable performances, which are $25 per person. Tickets for Stable performances can be purchased online.

To celebrate San Antonio’s Tricentennial and its Spanish heritage, Pearl has been hosting Olé, San Antonio: When San Antonio Meets Spain. This summer-long celebration commemorates the city’s 300th anniversary and runs until Sunday September 16 with events and activities related to four main pillars: gastronomy, music and dance, arts and architecture. Monday, September 3: Luis Gallo: Caminos de la Guitarra at 6p.m.
· Stemming from Madrid, Luis Gallo, a well-versed guitarist in jazz, classical and flamenco genres will perform his latest project–Caminos de la Guitarra (“Paths of Guitar) at Pearl Park. This event is free and open to the public with food and drink available for purchase in the Bottling Department.

Wednesday, September 5: Master Class: Queso (Cheese) at 10:30a.m. and 5:30p.m.
· Hotel Emma will host its final Master Class: Queso (Cheese). Expert Max McCalman will be the cheese connoisseur of the day, talking through the range and traditions of Spanish cheeses. There will be a short documentary, lesson from the expert and a cheese and wine pairing. Larder and Sternewirth will be carrying tapas and dishes specifically designed to highlight Spanish cheeses. Tickets are $25 and available online.

Thursday, September 6: Federico Garcia Lorca Cava Reception at 5p.m.
· Join Pearl for a cava reception and program celebrating the creative works of Federico Garcia Lorca with actor, playwright, and musician Jose Ruben DeLeon. This event is located at Galería Olé (302 Pearl Parkway, Suite 110) and is free and open to the public.

Thursday, September 6: First Thursday Night Market Olé Edition at 4p.m.
· For this First Thursday Night Market Olé Edition, acclaimed Spanish guitarist, Luis Gallo, will collaborate and perform with students from the Guitar Program at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Night Market goers will be able to purchase items from their favorite vendors with Spanish-themed goods. This event is free and open to the public.

Friday, September 14: Flamenco Tablao: Luis Gallo and Aaron Prado + Chef Johnny Hernandez at 6p.m.
· Journey into Spain as Pearl Stable transforms into a Spanish-inspired “tablao” to showcase dynamic entertainment and great culinary fare. Performances will include The Aaron Prado Trio and Luis Gallo. Chef Johnny Hernandez will begin the evening with passed tapas and dinner served family-style. Bar services includes beer, Spanish wines, and signature Spanish cocktails. Tickets are $150 and available online. This event is located at Pearl Stable.

Sunday, September 16: Mariachi Lab at 1p.m.
· Olé’s spectacular finale, Mariachi Lab, will return for the second year. Showcasing mariachi talent from across San Antonio including high school, college, all-female and top-level professional performers. There will be multiple live performances throughout the day. Pearl Stable will host a ticketed event with performances by all-female groups such as Mariachi Flor de Jalisco, Damas de Jalisco, Las Coronelas and Las Altenas. Tickets for the Stable event are $25 and are available online. All other performances are free and open to the public. This event will be held at various locations around Pearl.

In recognition of loyal guests and many enthusiasts, Fast Eddie’s is hosting a series of anniversary parties at each location on the first Friday of every month from August 2018 through February 2019. Each anniversary party will have a festive theme, drink specials and raffles. Camp Gladiator stadium takeover at Alamodome

Camp Gladiator, one of America’s fastest growing fitness companies, is proud to announce a series of free, open-to-the-public stadium takeover events this August in celebration of its tenth anniversary. With the motto “Changing Fitness, Changing Lives,” these fitness events will take place in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Lubbock, San Antonio, and Waco, Texas; as well as in Charlotte, North Carolina; Raleigh, New Carolina; Shreveport, Louisiana; Denver, Colorado; Orlando, Florida; Tampa, Florida; and Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 2008 in Dallas, Texas, by Ally and Jeff Davidson, Camp Gladiator is a movement dedicated to transforming lives through dynamic, fun and challenging outdoor group workouts led by talented trainers who inspire campers to discover their best selves. To celebrate its ten-year anniversary, Camp Gladiator is creating the camp experience on a grand scale by providing the rare experience of working out on the grounds of notable large stadiums in each city for a day of outdoor fitness fun. Since its humble beginning, Camp Gladiator has grown to over 80,000 campers with over 900 trainers across 350 cities. In its tenth year, Camp Gladiator is entering new markets as its pattern of rapid growth continues. Most recently, the company announced plans to expand to Jacksonville, Florida, in January 2019.

The stadium takeover days offer a social, hangout space for guests to have fun and get to know what Camp Gladiator is about. The events feature food, retail, and fitness vendors and other fitness activities such as a slamball slam contest and a battle rope station. Each city event has an Eventbrite page to RSVP and an RSVP is required to attend the free event. The events are open to all ages and all fitness levels. Attendees under 14 years old must have a parent present to attend. All campers will be provided with online waiver forms with their RSVP. Guests are asked to wear athletic clothing.

The Camp Gladiator stadium takeover events start on August 11 in Austin, Texas, and continue in cities across the nation on August 18 and August 25. The day is programmed around a free, CG trainer-led group workout. Attendees can sign up as a spectator or a competitor. The events will either be a “Dash” event where the participants will be released in waves to run between 10 workout stations held throughout the stadium or a “Mega Workout” where participants will complete the 10 workout stations as a large community workout. Dash events are held inside the stadiums are 2 to 3 miles long. Mega Workout events are 60 to 90 minutes long and are held on the stadium grounds or in stadium parking lots.

Both the Dash and Mega Workouts are full-body workouts that combine strength and cardio exercises designed to challenge campers of all fitness levels and ages. The workout is based off the CG camp experience which focuses on endurance, strength, agility, and interval training suitable for all fitness levels. Camp Gladiator provides an encouraging community to inspire greatness and a competitive spirit in each camper.

As a part of Olé, Grammy-nominated artist from Spain Concha Buika will perform a special concert at Pearl Park on Friday August 4 from 7p.m. to 10p.m. Known commonly by her stage name, Buika, the Spanish singer was voted one of “50 Great Voices” by NPR and nominated for the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Concha Buika will take over Pearl Park with a stunning performance that draws inspiration from flamenco, jazz and R&B. San Antonio favorite, Las Coronelas, the all-female mariachi group will open the show. The performance is free and open to the public. Parking information available online.

Pluckers Wing Bar celebrates 23 years

Pluckers Wing Bar is celebrating its 23rd anniversary this week from Monday July 23 through Sunday July 29 at all locations. Texas’ Favorite Wing Restaurant’s Celebration will feature Fan Favorites and food and drink specials, including 75-cent wings, $1 beers, $4 Holy Mac, and more. Culinary Monographs at Hotel Emma to celebrate Ole, San Antonio

Hotel Emma is hosting Culinary Monographs this summer to honor Spain’s most beloved flavors.

Olé, San Antonio is in full swing at the Pearl and Hotel Emma is joining in the celebration by hosting Culinary Monographs. These are six delicious, immersive experiences that will honor the most beloved flavors of Spain: olive oil, jamón (Spanish ham), tinned fish, salt and spices, wine and sherry and cheese, to help celebrate San Antonio’s Tricentennial. These culinary monographs will take place every two weeks, beginning on Wednesday/Thursday from June through September, each offering a look into the history, craftsmanship and diversity of flavor and utility of each product.

Each monograph includes a ticketed Monograph Session facilitated by experts and makers of the individual product. Guests will enjoy, depending on theme, a deep dive into the culture, economy and trends of the product and an expertly guided tasting opportunity. There will be an open-to-the-public Casual Tasting at Larder, where the fine grocery store at Hotel Emma will support each monograph with a multi-day tasting of the highlighted product. Tapas tastings will be held at Sternewirth, the main bar at Hotel Emma, which will create a special tapas dish highlighting the product at play. There will also be a Dinner at Supper series, where Chef John Brand will create a special tasting menu highlighting the various uses, applications and flavors of the spotlighted product. Monograph Sessions and Dinner at Supper will be ticketed events, while Tapas will be a menu option for Sternewirth guests and tastings at Larder will be free and open to the public. This summer-long celebration will take place from Friday June 15 to Sunday September 16 to commemorate the city’s 300th anniversary. The entire Pearl neighborhood will come together to create experiences and memories unique to Olé. June 30 (free event) Cabezudos Parade
A mainstay in Spanish festivals and parades are Cabezudos (“giants” or “big heads”), which feature large papier-mâché heads paired with ornate costumes—often inspired by religious figures and popular culture. The Tricentennial-inspired Cabezudos Parade will debut at the Pearl Farmers Market and culminate in a live performance by Volcán, the 13-piece Indie-Latin Orchestra based in South Texas. Parade starts at 10a.m. and live music from 11:30a.m. to 1p.m. Location: Pearl Farmers Market and Pearl Park
