Tammy’s Tasty Cuisine: Delicious and Healthy Baked Goods to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

Tammy’s Tasty Cuisine offers delicious and healthy baked goods.

Eating a healthy, gluten-free, and sugar-free diet can significantly benefit your body by reducing inflammation, boosting energy, and improving digestion. Gluten, found in wheat and some grains, can cause digestive issues for individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. Eliminating refined sugars helps stabilize blood sugar levels, preventing energy crashes and reducing the risk of chronic conditions like diabetes. Focusing on whole foods—fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and gluten-free grains—supports optimal health, promotes weight management, and enhances mental clarity. This approach nourishes the body, strengthens the immune system, and supports long-term well-being.

Saturday while visiting the Brownsville Farmers Market, I came across Tammy Muñoz, a friend and former co-worker from back in my Valley Regional days. As owner of Tammy’s Tasty Cuisine, she’s a local entrepreneur who, on her spare time, makes guiltless desserts that are both delicious and good for you. Her goal is “to bake healthier desserts and change the stigma that healthy food and desserts taste bad.” Baking is her calling and she truly enjoys sharing her creations with locals. After struggling with a medical condition, she realized that choosing healthier options, including low carb, gluten-free, and low sugar, was beneficial for her body. It is difficult, but not impossible, to find healthy desserts here in the Rio Grande Valley, so I was pleasantly surprised to find another option for people looking to take care of themselves, all while satisfying their sweet tooth.

Her baked goods are primarily low carb and gluten-free and include cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, pies (apple and pumpkin), and other sinfully delicious, yet healthy items. I tasted her chocolate chip cookies and they are really good. She doesn’t have a brick and mortar, but on most Saturdays you can find her at the Brownsville Farmers Market in Linear Park. With the holiday season among us, she is now taking orders for pies. So if you’re taking care of your health but still want to indulge, especially this time of year, check out her out on Facebook and Instagram. You can also email her.

Pearl is excited to announce various programs and events happening on campus this fall. This coming season, Pearl will host initiatives, an herb festival, and is also collaborating with local artists to create a community altar to celebrate Día de los Muertos. (Pearl, 2021)

“Pearl enjoys bringing the San Antonio community together and is excited to keep those experiences going this year after we were unable to do so in 2020. Our programming this fall will showcase food, culture, and arts from around the city.” – Pearl’s Chief Operating Officer Mesha Milsap

The 2021 fall programming is as follows:

Pearl Farmers Market and Pollinator Appreciation Month – October 1 – October 31
Pearl will continue to host the Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9a.m. to 1p.m. and its Makers Market on Sundays from 10a.m. to 2p.m. throughout the fall season. Guests can shop local fresh produce and goods at the nationally recognized Farmers Market each weekend.

In recognition of Pollinator Appreciation Month in October, Pearl is partnering with the Texas Butterfly Ranch to highlight the role pollinators play in the local food ecosystem. Through showcasing products at Farmers Market, sharing digital content, and introducing special signage on property highlighting host plants, Pearl brings awareness to pollinators and their role in making so many things possible.

Herb Festival: Parsley – October 16
The market will also host the 30th Annual Herb Market on Saturday, October 16 from 9a.m. to 1p.m. and will feature specialty herbs and other items. The featured herb of the year is Parsley (Petroselinum). A cooking demonstration is scheduled from 12p.m. to 1p.m. showcasing herbs and how to cook with the herb of the year. There will be activities for adults and children alike, experts to ask gardening questions, and fresh samples to take home.

Día de los Muertos – October 30 through November 7
Pearl continues its annual tradition of celebrating Día de los Muertos (celebrated November 1-2), with a community altar created by local artists and sisters, Manola and Maria Ramirez. The sisters are part of the all-female collaborative space, Lavaca Studios. The altar is dedicated to the San Antonio community and their loved ones who have passed away. The artists will use ethereal elements in the space like cempasúchil (marigolds), papel picado, and strands of tinsel to give visitors the feeling that they are walking into a place of worship. The focal point will be a tinsel heart as the centerpiece of the altar. The altar will be available to the public to view and share remembrances of loved ones from October 30 through November 7. Visitors can participate by lighting a digital candle for their loved ones who have passed.

Pearl is a dynamic neighborhood built around the historic Pearl Brewery, which operated from 1883 to 1999. Located just north of downtown San Antonio on the banks of the San Antonio River, it is home to architecturally significant buildings like the brewhouse and stable—both built in 1894—and numerous plazas. Today, Pearl is home to dozens of unique culinary concepts, one-of-a-kind retail, weekend markets, residential communities, innovative office tenants, the San Antonio campus of the Culinary Institute of America, and the award-winning Hotel Emma. Pearl is a vibrant district where community gathers to play, work, and live; it is a place where things are made and celebrated with purpose and sincerity. We invite all to gather and experience the best of what San Antonio has to offer.

Pearl celebrates anniversary of Farmers Market

Pearl celebrates Farmers Market’s 12th year in service with national recognition and new Sunday Makers Market. Photo: Pearl, used with permission.

Pearl is pleased to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the launch of the successful Pearl Farmers Market this coming Saturday, May 15, 2021. The market, which was recently named one of the 2021 top 10 farmers markets in the U.S. by USA Today, started in 2009 and has grown to host more than 50 local vendors every Saturday and Sunday. To officially celebrate its 12th year, Pearl Farmers Market will be offering complimentary cupcakes onsite to guests while supplies last. (Pearl, 2021)

Starting Saturday, May 15, Pearl Farmers Market will update its structure to better meet the needs of shoppers and vendors. Saturdays will continue as the Farmers Market from 9a.m. to 1p.m., while Sundays will be reserved for the Makers Market. The new structure will allow for additional local artisans and makers who produce culinary-inspired wares. More than 40 vendors will participate in Sundays’ Makers Market. The hours of operation for the Makers Market are 10a.m. to2 p.m. every Sunday starting May 16, 2021.

“After such a trying year with the pandemic and the winter storm that threatened so many of our region’s producers, we are thrilled with the national recognition placing us in the top five for US Farmers Markets. Pearl’s weekend Markets have grown tremendously over the last dozen years. As part of our market’s evolution, we are creating a new structure that features Farmers Market on Saturdays and Makers Market on Sundays. “ – chief marketing officer Elizabeth Fauerso.

The new changes and expansion to the market conveniently line up with Pearl’s recent recognition last month as one of the top 10 farmers markets in the country according to USA Today. Pearl’s market took the 5th spot on the list. The market attracts approximately 6,000 shoppers each week and hosts more than 50 vendors from within a 150 mile radius of San Antonio to ensure produce is fresh and products are regional.

Pearl, located north of downtown San Antonio, provides a unique experience as a top culinary and cultural destination. The mixed-use space features retail, dining, picturesque green spaces, paseos riverside amphitheater, and the third campus of The Culinary Institute of America. As a former brewery operating from 1883 to 2001, Pearl reflects a vivid past while embracing the future with environmentally sustainable buildings mixed with historic architecture.
