It’s officially spooky season! Looking for a horror movie to stream next weekend? Here is a new one from Terror Films.

The new atmospheric horror thriller Grieve, written and directed by Robbie Smith and starring Paris Peterson and Danielle Keaton, hits digital platforms Friday October 6 in North America. It will be available on JOBLO MOVIES, iTunes, and more.

Grieve – A man engulfed in the suffocating grip of loss finds his life fragmented. Struggling to navigate through his emotional fog, his mother suggests a retreat to her cabin – but an ancient entity that thrives on sorrow has taken root. The New England winter punctuates this love letter to creeping horror and slow cinema, like a marriage of Chantal Ackerman and Kiyoshi Kurosawa. (October Coast, 2023)

New book release: ‘House One’ by Nina Wilson

‘House One’ is the new novel by Nina Wilson. Photo: Amazon

Who can resist a good mystery novel filled with suspense and spooky settings? These types of books have always been my favorite, and growing up, I would look forward to my next suspenseful read. Today’s new book release is a novel for young readers ages 15-18 that centers around the strange goings on in a summer camp for children. “House One” by Nina Wilson takes place at a summer camp and involves unexplained deaths and malevolent forces. Check it out for yourself. Suitable for all readers, it is available on Amazon.

Nina Wilson is an author, poet, and photographer from the middle of nowhere Iowa. She has a B.A. in History and Fiction, and an M.F.A. in fiction. She has published a handful of poems in various literary magazines. Her two previous novels, “Surrender Language” and “Malady,” were published by Adelaide Books, the editor of which unfortunately is now involved in a handful of class-action lawsuits for fraud. Personally, she is an avid cat-lover, history nerd, and spear-fighter in a Historical European Martial Arts group. She enjoys hiking with her cats and cemetery photography. Her novel “House One” is largely based on her experience working at a summer camp for six summers and all the mayhem and mystery that went along with it. (Nina Wilson, 2023)

“House One” – Deep in the hills of Greenville, Iowa sits a century-old summer camp for children—Camp Kellova. Throughout the various remodels over time, House One remains a mysterious entity. Danger still lurks and unexplained deaths continue with frequency. Long-time camp counselor, Laurel has always been leery of House One. This summer, after she pulls a body out of Lake Owaissa, she decides it is time to find out why the spirit of this cabin has become so merciless. What malevolent forces are behind the mysterious happenings at House One? More importantly, what can Laurel do to keep the children out of its shadowy grip?

New bluegrass album: The Long And Lonesome Letting Go

Jim Lauderdale taps the ever talented Po’ Ramblin’ Boys for a new bluegrass album. Courtesy photo, used with permission.

On September 15, Jim Lauderdale and The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys released The Long And Lonesome Letting Go, a twelve-song LP of all-new Lauderdale co-writes—half of which was written with Po’ Ramblin’ Boys guitarist Josh Rinkel. Other co-writers include 10-time IBMA Award winner Becky Buller, North Carolina old soul Joe Newberry, well-traveled producer/songwriter Jimmy Ritchey, and rising young guns Logan Ledger and Alex Leach. Whether as co-writer, bandleader, master of ceremonies, or musical ambassador for musical styles or states, Lauderdale has been one of Americana music’s all-time great collaborators and The Long and Lonesome Letting Go stands as one of the best collaborative works in his 36-album discography. (IV-PR, 2023)

“When he came to ask about making an album, we were seriously blown away,” says C.J. Lewandowski, mandolinist of Grammy-nominated bluegrass outfit The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys. “It was really validating—Jim Lauderdale calling us to do a bluegrass album,” says Lewandowski. “We must be doing something right,” says one of the genre’s most promising young torchbearers who saw Lauderdale perform many times throughout his upbringing in Missouri.

Lauderdale and The Po Ramblin’ Boys shared the album’s lead-off track, “Long And Lonesome Letting Go,” another co-write, this time with prolific writer and seasoned multi-instrumentalist, Bob Minner. Joining the already-stacked lineup is one more unmistakable voice; that high tenor of Bluegrass Hall of Famer Del McCoury. Fans can hear the up tempo heartache of “Long And Lonesome Letting Go” here or at No Depression where “Long And Lonesome Letting Go” is in their Bonus Tracks column.

Jim Lauderdale and The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys will both be headed to this year’s IBMA World Of Bluegrass conference in Raleigh, North Carolina, performing The Long And Lonesome Letting Go tunes together as well as separate sets of their own original songs.

New album release: Last Chance To Win – East Nash Grass

Last Chance To Win is the new album by East Nash Grass. Courtesy photo, used with permission.

For five years running, East Nash Grass has been perfecting their sound as a band via a weekly engagement at Madison, Tennessee’s beloved Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge. Dobro legend Jerry Douglas calls East Nash Grass a “band of ringers,” saying, “The sound they make when they play together rivals that of any of their main gigs.” Every member is an accomplished professional in their own right on the road with national touring acts, and each would be a featured musician in any band. With James Kee on guitar, Cory Walker on banjo, Harry Clark on mandolin, Gaven Largent on dobro, Maddie Denton on fiddle, and Jeff Picker on bass, East Nash Grass is a band of all-stars, without question. Unlike many all-star bands that come together for one album or concert, East Nash Grass is a band in the true sense. Each member contributes their energy and their creative work to the group; the sum of which is miraculously greater than its parts. Last Chance to Win, the latest album from East Nash Grass is now available everywhere. (IV-PR, 2023)

Following in the footsteps of the Bluegrass Album Band, the Nashville Bluegrass Band, and many more, East Nash Grass has officially solidified its position as your favorite bluegrass band’s favorite bluegrass band. Out now, Last Chance To Win shows off the group’s instrumental prowess and songcraft for those not lucky enough to have seen it in person. For those who have, it is a stark reminder of the greater sum of East Nash Grass’s already great parts.

New documentary release: Beyond the Grave

The new documentary Beyond the Grave is available on digital platforms. Courtesy photo, used with permission.

Beyond the Grave, filmmaker Serena DC’s insightful documentary on what happens after we die, has been acquired by Uncork’d Entertainment for a digital release. It is available to rent or purchase on Google Play, Vudu, Amazon, and iTunes. (October Coast, 2023)

Death is the only certainty we have in life, and yet we know so little about it. Beyond the Grave explores the different aspects of the afterlife including near death experiences, channeling the dead, and the attempt to extend one’s lifespan thru cryonics.

After living through a global pandemic, death has been placed at the forefront of our lives. However, what actually happens to us when we die is still shrouded in mystery. There are some cultures who believe that death is truly the end; however there is a growing community of people around the world who claim to have had near death experiences. These people, in the 10s of millions, believe that they have travelled beyond the grave and have proof of the afterlife. The also believe that our consciousness lives on after our bodies die. If this is true, then can the terminally ill freeze their bodies at the time of death, to be brought back to life and healed in the future? There are others who possess a 6th sense and claim to have conversations with the dead or have experienced paranormal phenomena involving visitations by ghosts. Does this mean that humans can communicate with the spirits of people who have died and if so, can these spirits come back to haunt us?

Serena DC meets with the world’s leading scientists, doctors, experts, mediums and paranormal investigators to discover if there really is life Beyond The Grave.

“Appealing to both a true crime and conspiracy theory audience, as well as those genuinely interested in what happens after we depart, is one immersive, captivating documentary,” said Keith Leopard, President of Uncork’d Entertainment. “Fans of Gates of Heaven and Afterlife will find this beautiful new companion piece on digital in September.”

Serena DC is the internationally recognized TV Star, Screenwriter, and Executive Producer who created the feature film “Contact – The CE-5 Experience” starring Dr. Steven Greer, the Emmy nominated documentary “My Transparent Life” and Emmy nominated series “Hollywood Disclosure” which has just finished airing on Hulu across the USA as well as the reality series “Dream Life,” which is currently airing on worldwide on Pluto TV.

New album release: River – Bonnie Montgomery

Bonnie Montgomery’s new album River will be out November 3, 2023. Courtesy photo, used with permission.

Raised in rural Arkansas on a soundtrack of southern gospel, Texas swing, Delta blues, and Ozark bluegrass, Bonnie Montgomery trained as an opera singer before launching her award-winning career in outlaw country. While she is not in the spotlight of big budget beer commercials, at least yet, she may just be the most interesting woman in the world. From the high-brow—Montgomery is a classically trained opera singer and wrote a folk opera that ran at New York’s Medicine Show Theatre and was praised in The New Yorker; to the “low-brow”—she was crowned “Outlaw Female” at the infamous Ameripolitan Awards for her non-operatic, country-tinged solo career, amongst a slew of other awards; to life well-beyond music where she became a certified Reiki master in the ongoing process of healing her body from years on the road and from a commercial airline crash in 1999 when she was still a teenager. In all, Montgomery has lived a wonderfully diverse life, full of ups and downs, but until now, has not managed to connect all of her dots in a way she has been happy with. (IV-PR, 2023)

On November 3, Montgomery will release a brand new album entitled River, an eclectic and electrifying amalgamation of every corner of her life and music career up until now. River is a versatile record that shows just how broad Montgomery’s vision of American roots music can be as it flows freely from one genre to the next. It is the crystallization of a sound Montgomery has been creating for years, blurring the boundaries between different formats while presenting Montgomery not only as a powerhouse vocalist but as an autobiographical storyteller and captivating songwriter, too.

“This is the most straight-from-the heart album I’ve ever cut,” says Montgomery, who headed to Texas to record River with co-producer Kevin Skrla. “I’ve always been a multi-genre artist. I have a classical background, but I’m a big fan of soul music and rock, too. Country music was the soundtrack of my childhood. All of that went into River. Making that album felt like the first time I could be me, sing my heart out, and not worry about fitting into any specific box. It was pure. It was freeing.”

With the help of Holler., Montgomery recently premiered the first listen from River with her song “Modern-Day Cowgirl’s Dream.” Dubbed “A real life account of what Montgomery calls “honky-tonkin’ around Texas,” “Modern-Day Cowgirl’s Dream” rides a half-time country backbeat and phase-shifted Telecaster licks to tell the story of “cowboys, neon nights, jumping in the cold springs, and crashing at Miss Whitney Rose’s house—she also sang on the track—and waking up just to do it all over again.” The accompanying music video was directed by actor, singer, Broadway-veteran, and GRAMMY-winner, Zachary James. “We had fun shooting it at the White Water Tavern in Little Rock, where I’ve played hundreds of times,” remembers Montgomery. “The Shoot turned out a little raunchy and reckless, just like the song.”

Fans can watch the video for “Modern-Day Cowgirl’s Dream” and pre-order or pre-save River ahead of its November release. Tour dates and ticket information is available online

But something about Adanma makes Titi hesitant to adopt her – she is HIV positive. However, Musa’s deep connection with the young girl compels him to pursue the adoption process, which Titi eventually gets on board.

Determined to protect her against prejudice, Titi does whatever it takes to hide her status from the world. But right from the word go, Adanma bravely and resiliently embraces her status, fearlessly talking about it every chance she gets, regardless of who is listening.

Her brilliant mind and unwavering self-acceptance become her greatest assets, and she excels academically, refusing to be defined by her status. Adanma’s inspiring journey ultimately captures the attention of both young men and influential figures, leading her to the world stage.

New book release: ‘Full-Tilt Boogie: A Jade Hui Mystery’ by Robb T. White

‘Full-Tilt Boogie: A Jade Hui Mystery’ is the latest novel by Robb T. White. Photo: Amazon

Crime, noir, and detective novels have been around for years and their popularity is still strong. Whether it is a gritty and cynical detective solving crimes or a morally compromised private detective solving seedy mysteries, their dark undertones have thrilled readers who prefer more realistic storylines. If you are a fan of this genre of books, “Full-Tilt Boogie: A Jade Hui Mystery” by Robb T. White might just be your next guilty pleasure. This new release is available on Amazon.

Robb T. White writes from Northeastern Ohio. He has published several crime, noir, hardboiled novels, and genre stories in various magazines and anthologies. He has been nominated for a Derringer and “Inside Man,” a crime story, was selected for Best American Mystery Stories 2019. His second hardboiled private investigator series, after the Thomas Haftmann mysteries begun in 2011 with “Haftmann’s Rules,” features Raimo Jarvi in Northtown Eclipse and Northtown Blitz. British website Murder, Mayhem & More cited “When You Run with Wolves” as a finalist for Top Ten Crime Books of 2018 and Perfect Killer in 2019. “If I Let You Get Me” was selected for the Bouchercon 2019 anthology and “The Russian Heist,” another crime thriller, was selected by Thriller Magazine as winner of its Best Novel category. In his new novel “Full-Tilt Boogie: A Jade Hui Mystery,” shortly after being assigned to the field office, Special Agent Jade Hui is stumped by her predecessor’s do-nothing record when there is every indication that something big is about to happen. (Robert T. White, 2023)

“Full-Tilt Boogie: A Jade Hui Mystery” – Something’s going on in Youngstown, Ohio—and it is not pretty. The Bureau is hindering SAC Jade Hui’s attempts at stopping the brutal trafficking of young girls in New York City. She has only a retired senior agent as her backer. Now she is reassigned back to that minor field office in Youngstown, the quintessential rust-belt city—and she contemplates quitting. Her newest assignment holds her back, however: she is to coordinate with Interpol’s Amsterdam contact, an old colleague from her past.

Jaap Ens is spearheading an international drug-smuggling operation that originates in Amsterdam with tentacles reaching into the American Midwest. Jaap tells Jade that the Aryan Brotherhood, a dangerous prison gang which has been operating for decades under law enforcement’s radar, has aligned itself with a cartel of international criminals to dominate the United States with the designer drug Extasy. Camouflaged behind its racism and neo-Nazi politics, the Brand has shifted away from the high-risk and hard-to-control production of meth to this designer drug, where endless supplies of pills are manufactured by the hundreds of thousands in labs across the Netherlands. Using the same routes in place from their sex-slave trafficking in Europe and the Balkans, this cartel of Albanian and Russian mobsters is beginning to flood the huge market of vulnerable American teenagers.

Adding to Jade’s challenges is a raw agent assigned to assist her: Derek Bensusan. Jade is determined not to fail this time, and she has the qualities of mind and heart to succeed. She and Derek interview a convict given a “death sentence” by the Aryan Brotherhood at the state penitentiary. He reveals an expected drug shipment and mentions a bar downtown.

Derek’s ongoing investigation into a corrupt local bank with links to the Russian crime organization out of Brighton Beach needs help. She calls New York for technical support and they send their ace hacker. Jade, meanwhile, has a disturbing experience after an interview with a striking woman who runs in dangerous, wealthy circles over a female prize fighter’s brutal death.

Jade attempts to re-establish a rapport with the detectives of Youngstown P.D. but discovers hostility and suspicion. The drug investigation will take Jade to Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, and Moscow and back again to Youngstown. She will be surrounded by a vile host of sleazy characters between Hollywood and the Midwest, some with Russian connections to crime organizations. As Jade gets closer to the top figures in the international drug ring, the body count rises as the expendables are cut loose.
