Adventures in the Sky: Amelia’s Journey Takes Flight in Brownsville

SAN ANTONIO — Two of Texas’s leading children’s museums, The DoSeum in San Antonio and Children’s Museum of Brownsville (CMB), are proud to announce their collaborative presentation of Adventures in the Sky: Amelia’s Journey, a high-energy, family-centered exhibition inspired by the legacy of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart and her historic ties to Brownsville, Texas. (The DoSeum/Children’s Museum of Brownsville, 2025)

The exhibition officially opened to the public at the Children’s Museum of Brownsville during a grand opening celebration on Saturday, November 22, and is now a permanent exhibition at CMB.

A Story of Flight, Courage, and South Texas Possibility

Adventures in the Sky: Amelia’s Journey invites children to step into the story of flight through hands-on exploration, playful engineering challenges, and immersive environments that connect history to the future of STEM.

Inspired by Amelia Earhart’s fearless spirit, and a remarkable chapter of her aviation legacy linked to Brownsville, it encourages young learners to ask bold questions:

  • How do planes fly?
  • What makes someone a trailblazer?
  • What dreams are possible when science meets courage?

Through interactive components designed for early learners through upper elementary ages, families explore physics, aerodynamics, problem-solving, and perseverance, all anchored in a story that belongs to this region.

The Power of Two Museums, One Shared Mission

The DoSeum and the Children’s Museum of Brownsville came together with a simple belief: children thrive when communities invest in curiosity.

As exhibition collaborators, the two institutions pooled creative development, educational design support, and operational expertise to ensure a seamless, high-quality experience for South Texas families. This partnership strengthens a regional pipeline of learning, making it easier for children to encounter consistent, STEM-rich experiences whether they visit museums in San Antonio, Brownsville, or anywhere in between.

“When children see their local history reflected in exciting, hands-on experiences, it changes the way they imagine their future. This collaboration is about building bridges between cities, between institutions, and most importantly between kids and opportunity.”
— Meredith Doby, Chief Creative Officer, The DoSeum

“Amelia’s Journey is a love letter to South Texas, the dreamers, the builders, and the next generation of innovators. We’re grateful to have the support of The DoSeum, for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with us to bring this exhibit to life for our community.”
— Felipe Peña III, Executive Director, Children’s Museum of Brownsville

This partnership reflects a growing movement among cultural and educational institutions to share resources, expertise, and imagination, ensuring children across the region, regardless of ZIP code, can access world-class learning experiences.

A Regional Investment in Families

Along with the recent Boca Chica to Mars exhibition, the launch of Adventures in the Sky: Amelia’s Journey is part of a broader expansion of STEM learning opportunities at CMB, including major new exhibition investments exceeding $1 million.

For families in Deep South Texas, this means more chances to learn together in spaces that are safe, joyful, culturally connected, and designed specifically for children. It also means local students can experience interactive science learning that research shows supports long-term academic confidence and interest in STEM careers.

Finding Connection and Healing in ‘Return To Me’ by Linda Lopez

‘Return To Me: A House Divided’ by Linda Lopez

“Return To Me: A House Divided” is the story of Ethan Salmanaire who had a rough childhood. While still young, he meets Melodia Procaccini Licciardello and eventually they get married and have children of their own. Along the way, they open their home to several children who were either abandoned or abused. Theirs is a complicated story filled with secrets, strained family relationships, and personal struggles.

This novel is a combination of literary fiction and family drama that explores the complexities of loyalty, love, and legacy. The writing is rich with detail: “The excitement is her voice traveled like a breeze in a meadow through Giovanni’s hair, more so in a concerning manner;” while the narrative emphasizes the themes of reconciliation and personal growth, painting a portrait of a family struggling to heal in the midst of external and internal conflicts. The topics of reconciliation and self-discovery are handled with sensitivity, encouraging readers to reflect on their own relationships.

Ethan and Melodia’s journey is poignant and insightful and told through multiple perspectives, allowing readers to experience the chaos and conflicting loyalties each character faces. The characters are richly developed, with their individual struggles making them relatable and real. The pacing is steady, with tension building as the family confronts their shared history.

Overall, “Return to Me: A House Divided” is a thought provoking and heartfelt tale about the power of family ties and the resilience needed to mend them. Focused on the power of love and the enduring bonds of family, it is recommended for readers interested in the complexities of human relationships, particularly siblings and blended families.

“The empty cups shimmered in the sunlight that seeped through the window as we spoke at the table. It was unsettling, unreal. Expecting nothing was new to me because, for the first time, all the administrators of oppression were gone.”

Book of the week: ‘Me & You: Book for parents, children and partners’ by Lara and Božidar Grilc

‘Me & You’ looks into the dynamics of parents, children, and partnerships. Courtesy photo, used with permission.

Father Božidar Grilc, a well-known Slovenian hypnotherapist with more than 20 years of practice, and his daughter Lara Grilc, until recently a teenager, co-wrote the book “Me & You.” Throughout his years of work, Božidar devoted most of his time to people who go beyond the limits of hypnosis into so-called altered states of consciousness. He is best known to people as Akasha. Lara Grilc, today a 20-year-old, realized at the age of 10 that she has a natural talent for hypnosis and that she can easily enter even the deepest states. Spontaneously, she switched to a different state of consciousness, and from there she draws information that she decided to start sharing on her blog. “Me & You” is available on Kindle through Amazon.(Božidar Grilc, 2023)

“Me & You” – A hypnotherapist father noticed that his 14-year-old daughter was entering states of altered consciousness. In these states, she gets answers to complex questions about the world, relationships, health, and the like. This little book is the result of their study of human relations: how to understand yourself, your partner, and your parents. Why does one child change drastically during puberty, but not another? Until now, an unheard-of explanation of two worlds often incompatible in partner relations. An excellent guide to self-discovery and others.

This booklet was created during the work of a hypnotherapist father and his daughter, through her in-depth hypnotic meditation. The father found himself at a crossroads in life. He was no longer sure which way to go. While working with her, she began to give him answers to his questions. Little by little, they began to discover a whole new world, unknown to them until now. They received the most answers, given their current situation regarding partnerships. From these answers, this tiny booklet emerged. It changed their lives. Let it change yours too.
