The Pearl is brimming with activity this month. Whether it be music, food, shopping or fitness, there is something for everyone. (Pearl, 2018)

Fitness in Pearl Park at 5:30p.m.
Pearl hosts a free Fitness in Pearl Park every Tuesday, May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, at 5:30 p.m. in May with CrossFit classes from MBS Fitness. After class, enjoy specials in the Bottling Department from The Good Kind and the Bar. Sign up is not required for this event.

Sunset Sessions is back at Pearl Park for the 2018 summer season. DJ sets are every Wednesday starting on May 2 from 5:30p.m. to 9p.m. Dates and details for the June through October sessions will be forthcoming.

Sunday, May 13: Mother’s Day at Pearl
Mother’s Day at Pearl is jam packed with family-friendly activities and brunches worthy of spoiling moms. The Bottling Department will be giving away free Vintage Bouquet Bar flowers to all moms that walk in that day and will have a mom mimosa special at the bar. Bakery Lorraine will have dark chocolate zinfandel macaroons and The Granary ‘Cue and Brew will have a first ever pop-up brunch from 11a.m. to 3p.m. featuring buttermilk French toast and more. Granary is not usually open on Sundays, so this will give guests an exclusive chance to try their brunch for the first time. Retailers at the Pearl will also be open during normal business hours for guests to buy the perfect Mother’s Day present. The Farmers Market will be open from 10a.m. to 2p.m. as usual that day.

Starting Saturday, May 19 through June 3: Elena Gallego’s Rare Books Pop-Up Shop at Pearl from 11a.m. to 7p.m.
Elena Gallego Rare Books will be hosting a special pop-up at the Pearl featuring antiquarian books, manuscripts, maps and posters from Texas and Spain. The pop-up will start on May 19 and go through June 3. There will be an official opening party on Tuesday, May 22, starting at 5p.m., with cocktails provided by La Merienda Catering. Monday, May 28: Memorial Day at Pearl from 12p.m. to 4p.m.
Celebrate Memorial Day at Pearl with a crawfish boil and pig roast by Bud’s Southern Rotisserie. Activities will include live music by the Gulf Coast Playboys and more.

April brings a whole month of exciting events at Pearl. From weekly workouts in Pearl Park to shopping the Farmers Market vendors during First Thursday Night market and celebrating Fiesta with a Battle of the Flowers after party, there is something for everyone. Starting Tuesday, April 3: Fitness in Pearl Park at 5:30 p.m.
Pearl hosts Fitness in Pearl Park every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in April with Smart Barre. After class enjoy specials in the Bottling Department from The Good Kind and the Bottling Department Bar. Happy hour at the Bottling Department takes place every Monday. Participants can sign up with Smart Barre.

Thursday, April 5: First Thursday Night Market from 4p.m. to 8p.m.
Over 20 Pearl Farmers market vendors will set up shop on Pearl Parkway offering their latest products and handmade goods. Enjoy live music by Los Djangoleros while stocking up on goods from local vendors.

Friday, April 27: Battle of the Flowers After Party from 12:30p.m. to 5p.m.
Keep the celebration going after Battle of the Flowers parade with Pearl. Enjoy specials from the Bottling Department while dancing along to performances by DJ Chulita Vinyl Club and Gina Chavez. Mr. Piñata will emcee the event. Several restaurants will also be offering specials in celebration of Fiesta.

First Thursday Night Markets at Pearl

Pearl’s First Thursdays has a new format that will allow guests to enjoy the best of the Farmers Market vendors. This Thursday March 1 from 4p.m. to 8p.m. is the inaugural First Thursday Night Markets with select local vendors and entertainment taking place every first Thursday throughout the year.  These events feature live music and dining and shopping specials for the ultimate local shopping experience. Over 20 Pearl Farmers’ Market vendors will set up shop on Pearl Parkway, offering their latest products and handmade goods. These will include PAWSitively Sweet Bakery,  Organic Chix, Ms. Chocolatier, Braune Farms, River Whey Creamery, Holdman Honey, Happy Earth Garden, Talking Tree Farm, Poteet Country Winery, Bending Branch Winery, Grain Free Haven,  Madge’s Food Company, Byccombe Natural Solutions, Ricerise,  Lil Red’s Boiled Peanuts, Wildflower Caramels, Al’s Gourmet Nuts, Deep River Specialty Foods, Ming’s Thing, Sol Y Luna Bakery, Parker Creek Ranch, Peaceful Pork, Texas Black Gold Garlic, Wild Roots and Mother Culture.

Indie rock band St. Dukes will perform at Pearl Parkito throughout the evening and activities will include cornhole boards on the lawn outside of Cured. Guests can enjoy specials from select Pearl retailers with special offerings like Hiatus Spa + Retreat’s five-minute mini lift with Nuface and skin consultation, High Street Wine Co.’s complimentary wine tastings and discounts for night market patrons. Happy hours from Cured and Jazz, TX will be available, as well as specials and discounts from Nao, Larder, Lick Honest Ice Creams and more.

National Margarita Day on February 22

Thursday February 22 is National Margarita Day and San Antonio has plenty of places to get a margarita, whether authentic or creative. When it comes to downtown, Downstairs at the Esquire is the place for a simple, traditional, tequila-forward margarita and at the Cork Bar at the beautiful Hotel Contessa, guests can try their prickly pear margarita. At the Pearl, the house cocktails at Sternewirth at Hotel Emma include La Babia Margarita and Pony Tricks. For those in New Braunfels, Krause’s Café features margaritas on tap featuring fresh citrus and served on the rocks. (The Esquire Tavern, Pearl, Krause’s Café, 2018)

Rosella at the Rand is the recently-opened restaurant with a full bar that is livening up downtown San Antonio. They are celebrating by offering a special, off-menu cocktail called The Rosella Margarita ($9) on February 22. The signature recipe below was created by Jesse Torres, Bar Manager at Rosella at the Rand.

The Rosella Margarita:
1 oz Cimarron Tequila Blanco
1/2 oz Arette Tequila Reposado
3/4 oz Combier
3/4 oz Lime Juice
1/4 oz Simple Syrup

Shake well with ice and serve either up or on the rocks in chilled, salt-rimmed glasses. Express the oils of an orange over the drink and garnish with a lime wedge.

‘Month of Love’ returns to Pearl this February

During the month of February, Pearl is celebrating all things love with their ‘Month of Love’ celebration. This will consist of romantic programming that includes sweet shopping and dining specials at the onsite restaurants and retailers and romantic live music. Hiatus Spa + Retreat, The Granary ‘Cue and Brew and more are offering specials throughout the romantic weekend. Pearl is encouraging all guests to interact via social media posts using the hashtag #PearlLoves throughout the month. (Pearl, 2018)

Special Events:
Enjoy all day happy hour every Monday at Bottling Department. During February, The Bar at Bottling Department will have handcrafted mimosas, specialty sangrias, local beer and wines carefully selected by the team at High Street Wine Co.

Sweethearts Dance will bring the community together for an evening of dancing at Pearl Studio on Friday February 9 from 5p.m. to 7:30 p.m. featuring DJ Steven Lee Moya.

Salsa Night at The Stable invites salsa pros and beginners to come to Pearl Stable on Friday, February 17 from 7p.m. to 11p.m. with music by Jose Amador and NATIAO Latin Jazz.

The music series Canciones; Love Songs returns to Pearl Park on Friday, February 23 from 5:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with live music from Tje Austin & Alyson Alonzo.

Sound Cream returns to Pearl Park on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14 from 6p.m.to 9p.m. SoundCream Airstream will host DJ JJ Lopez with his own take on all things love-inspired music.

Hotel Emma has an exclusive Valentine’s package for patrons staying throughout the month. Hotel guests can use code MLOVE to receive a special room rate and receive complimentary chocolates including a box of four regional truffles and a half bottle of Miravel rose upon arrival.

Shopping
Customers can assemble an extra special flower bouquet at The Vintage Bouquet Bar, the flower and gift boutique that consists of full service floral customization. Selections include florals, fillers, greenery and arrangement style for a personalized piece perfect for any Valentine. The limited-edition style created for Valentine’s Day is called the “Yours & Mine” arrangement which sells for $150 and lux blooms styled two unique ways to complement their accompanying dark gray or light cream copper bottom ceramic vases.  They also have classes where guests can learn the art of floral design with a hands-on, relaxing experience on how to build and create signature whimsical arrangements. Each class arrangement will be uniquely styled and color palette oriented and will change from week to week.

Adelante Boutique has new, lightweight sweaters in stock by Wooden Ships, which make dressing for the occasion effortless.

Dos Carolinas is selling Valentine’s Day robes to make gift-giving super easy. Be Mine and Hug Me “Bathrobe Love” bathrobes are seersucker and one-size fits all. Perfect for gift giving to a loved one, these robes will make anyone want to lounge the day away.

Dine and Drink
The Granary ‘Cue and Brew is offering a three-course pre-fixe dinner on Valentine’s Day from 5:30p.m. to 10p.m. for $55 per person, plus tip and tax. Each guest will choose a Welcome, Savor and Stay Courses from a specially selected menu for the evening including items such as Smoked Pork Belly, Barbecued Duck Breast, Buttermilk Chess Pie and more. Select wine and sparkling options will be featured during the evening. Reservations are not required, but strongly suggested and may be made online. The Granary also has a new seasonal beer on tap, ideal for chocolate lovers: Imperial Mocha Stout.

High Street Wine Co. will be celebrating Pearl’s ‘Month of Love’ with two unique wine flights that will run through the entire month. The first flight, ‘Riddle Me This,’ will be an exploration into the major styles of sparkling wine made by the Champagne Method. The second flight, ‘Liquid Dessert,’ has three different dessert wines that are distinctly different. Each flight will be paired with a small treat alongside, and discounts will apply to those who order in ‘pairs.’

This week at Pearl there are numerous holiday activities to get visitors into the holiday spirit. From the festive scenery to holiday entertainment, food specials, shopping and live music, there is something for everyone.

The featured designer brands at Popmarte this week are India Hicks, Snake Hawk Press, Mignonne Gavigan, Lambillotte, La Marée Swimwear, Uwila Warrior, Dawnson + Hellmann and Cheree Berry Paper. Popmarte is a rotating, multi-brand retail store open for a limited time through December 23.

On Tuesday, December 12 – Northwest Hills Baptist Church will be caroling at 7p.m. at Parkito.

The Holiday Night Market will take place on Thursday December 14 from 4p.m. to 8p.m. This week it features Farmers Market vendors, craft vendors, live music and holiday activities. Guests will be able to pick up tamales and other traditional goodies like chocolates and sweets and gifts including handmade soaps to artisan goat cheese and gourmet dog treats.

Holiday Canciones is set for Thursday, December 14 beginning at 6p.m. This is a a four-part music series that takes place as part of the Pearl Holiday Night Market and features popular Texas music genres with a holiday twist. This week’s ‘Blue Christmas’ showcases rising Texas blues star, Dylan Bishop with a performance of classic blues and Christmas tunes mixed with his authentic and well-groomed playing style. During the evening event, patrons can experience a special outdoor bar by Bottling Department. All female Mariachi group Las Coronelas will also perform at Parkito.

Popmarte pop-up store at Pearl

Pearl is making it easier for customers to do some holiday shopping this season. Popmarte, a rotating, multi-brand pop-up retails store, is now open at the Pearl grounds until December 23. Curated by fashion industry veterans Nina McCandless and Ashley Clauss, it is a 1,200 square-foot retail space which features a wide selection of goods from local, regional and national designers in the fashion, accessories, home, beauty, kids, tech, travel and lifestyle space. Each week, five to seven select brands will have their own shop-in-shop within the overall space offering newness and excitement for the consumer throughout this holiday season. (Popmarte, 2017)

This Friday May 19 Hotel Emma at the Pearl is hosting a book signing with Chef Ben Ford. The community is invited to join Chef Ben Ford for a special book signing at Curio, the gift shop at Hotel Emma from 5:30p.m. to 6:30p.m. This event is free and open to the public and there is no need to RSVP. He will be there to sign copies of his first cookbook: “Taming the Feast: Ben Ford’s Field Guide to Adventurous Cooking” and guests will be able to enjoy some bites, a glass of wine and get to meet the chef and author. Guests may bring their own copy of the book or purchase one on site. (Hotel Emma, 2017)

Chef Ben Ford is known for wowing crowds with his over the top handcrafted feasts and now with “Taming the Feast” he presents a field guide to adventurous cooking. He gives step by step instructions with photos and illustrations so anyone can grill, smoke or roast outdoors or a smaller version of the feast in their own kitchens. Along with recipes, artisanal techniques and gorgeous photography, Chef Ford shares stories of growing up with his father Harrison Ford, then a carpenter, and his life as a chef at some of California’s best restaurants.

Hiatus Spa + Retreat opens at the Pearl

Hiatus Spa + Retreat is an award-winning Texas day spa with locations in Dallas, Austin and Plano. They recently announced that on Tuesday May 9 they are opening a fourth Texas location, this one in San Antonio at The Cellars at Pearl next to Hotel Emma. This 5,000-square foot day spa was designed by Austin-based architects Clayton & Little and will feature original artwork by Texas artist Jan Heaton. There will be thirteen treatment rooms including a couples room, hydrotherapy, a nail therapy lounge with four zero-gravity chairs, an inviting relaxation area and separate dressing rooms for men and women.  (Hiatus Spa + Retreat, 2017)

The main subscription is the H Circle where guests can choose one signature “Essential Service” each month which include the Signature Massage, Tailor-Made Facial, One & Only Mani-Pedi, Body Glow or the Body Wrap. This membership is $69 per month and includes special discounted pricing for members on all treatments and 10% off all retail products. Other services include The Yours, Truly massage, The Perfectionist Facial, The Kindred Spirits couples massage and the Monthly Retreat.

Hiatus Spa + Retreat was founded in Dallas in 2007 by Garrison and Peabody with partner Bill Garrison. Since then they have locations in Dallas, Austin and Plano with another upcoming location in Houston. First Thursday at Pearl was created to give guests an evening of family fun and shopping deals. The next First Thursday is March 2 from 5p.m. to 7p.m. Pearl kicks off Spring Break this Thursday as guests will be able to take advantage of in-store specials at Pearl’s boutiques and restaurants and enjoy live music by surf rockers King Pelican. There will be a Chef Demo at Cured on pickling vegetables while pairing a Citrus & Mint Champagne Punch and 25% off all wine selection at Larder. (Pearl, 2017)
