Ava Becker is an up and coming author who finds herself starting most days emerging from a comatose state over a cup of coffee, sneaking bites of morning pancakes from her children, tripping over those same children’s bookbags that seem to dart in front of her on purpose, hoping that her husband took the dog outside for his morning potty break before leaving for work, and making sure people get a good look at her perpetual bedhead as she struts around the house in such fashion for as long as possible. Not scary at all.

She considers herself the luckiest person to be able to write stories of love and passion that illustrate an inexorable connection between her characters. She loves romances that hold your attention and make it impossible to put the book down. She especially delights in a twisty story and she is always apologizing to the poor soul who gets the short end of the stick. Her stories often involve strong, commanding, charismatic men who let themselves be vulnerable to the smart, sexy, lovable women who steal their hearts. Add of dash of humor and, mwah! Parfait! “Bad Boy Billionaire Protector,” her fifth book, is a contemporary romance between college student Amber and graduate student Christos, who is really an undercover FBI agent. (Ava Becker, 2023)

Bad Boy Billionaire Protector” – When grieving college junior Amber meets graduate student Christos following the tragic suicide of her boyfriend, there is an instant and explosive attraction between them. As Mason continues crossing personal and professional lines as he pursues Amber, he soon reveals a stunning revelation that undermines her trust and love for him. At the same time, looming threats from the secret society soon sweep this couple along a dangerous path that could destroy any chance at happiness.

Book highlight: ‘To Thrive or To Fall’ by Trinity Johnson

‘To Thrive or To Fall’ is a post apocalyptic novel by Trinity Johnson. Photo: Barnes & Noble

Post apocalyptic novels are usually set in the future after a major event changed the world people inhabited. They often explore possible responses to the destruction of the world or society and how they are trying to survive in their new surroundings. That is what makes them so fascinating and one of my favorite genres of science fiction. Today I would like to highlight one such novel: “To Thrive or To Fall” by Trinity Johnson. If you enjoy reading books set in a post-apocalyptic setting mixed with fantasy, science-fiction, action, and romance, then this is a story that you will surely enjoy. It is available on Barnes & Noble.

Trinity Johnson is a passionate author who enjoys writing purposeful books of different genres which are meant to teach and entertain. She is creating BagHead Scoop which is an ever-growing company founded with the belief of increasing the level of happiness through books and animation. There is also BookUp+Chill which is a YouTube channel that showcases book trailers to bring the story and characters to life. Between entertainment and teaching lessons, there is something for everyone. In her post apocalyptic novel “To Thrive or To Fall,” the result of radiation from nuclear war and the impact of a meteorite created a new world and has divided humanity into four kingdoms: Acropolis, Bunker 50, Oasis State, and Xanadu City. (Trinity Johnson, 2023)

“To Thrive or To Fall” – More than 100 years ago, World War III broke out amongst all countries. Nuclear war ravaged the planet and once it finally ended, the atmosphere was left with its radiation. To make matters worse, a meteorite struck the Earth and changed the world as our ancestors knew it. This event was called, ‘The Descent.’

However, something miraculous happened. When the radiation from the bio-weapons used in World War III mixed with the impact of the meteorite, a major chemical reaction spread everywhere, evolving humanity into something more. Now people are divided into four kingdoms: Acropolis which resides in the mountains, Bunker 50 which is made up of bunkers, Oasis State that dwells near the lakes, and Xanadu City which is underground.

Easy-going Fleur Solace from Xanadu and stern Atlas Aslan from Acropolis were close friends as children. But after a terrible misunderstanding, they were forced apart by their nations. Ten years later, the two young adults have become the ambassadors of their kingdoms and must work together to unify their people.

However, with tensions from the past, new personalities, potential traitors, and seemingly orchestrated attacks, will they be able to win against each other and the dangerous political arena?

New book release: ‘Blue Hills’ by Clifford Shepherd

‘Blue Hills: Book 1 of the Bridge family saga’ is the debut historical fiction novel by Clifford Shepherd. Photo: Amazon

In historical fiction, a fictional story takes place in the setting of particular real historical events. As a huge history fan, I love reading historical fiction because it brings history to life by using relatable characters and some that we love to hate. Family sagas that span several years are especially engaging. Today’s new book release is in this particular genre. Clifford Shepherd’s debut novel “Blue Hills” is the first in the Bridge Family Saga that begins during World War II and promises to touch your heart and leave you with a renewed appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit. If you are a fan of historical fiction, family sagas, historical romances, and war/military action fiction, put this one on your TBR (to be read) list. It is available on Amazon US and Amazon UK.

Clifford Shepherd is a passionate writer whose journey begins with his debut novel “Blue Hills.” This marks the inception of a remarkable saga that will take readers on a captivating adventure, spanning from the past to the present day. Clifford’s love for the written word has been a lifelong affair, but it was a pivotal moment during a long walk with his eldest son, Cyrus, that gave him the nudge to put pen to paper. “Just do it,” his son urged, and one year later, Clifford proudly presents his first book to the world.

While crafting compelling stories, Clifford also manages a demanding day job as a senior analyst – a testament to the dedication of many indie authors who balance their creative pursuits with professional careers. Beyond his writing, Clifford’s interests extend to video editing, creating podcasts, and hosting a weekly radio show on Salford City Radio FM. Join Clifford Shepherd on his literary voyage, as he combines his diverse talents and passion for storytelling to bring you engaging narratives that will stand the test of time. (Clifford Shepherd, 2023)

“Blue Hills: Book 1 of the Bridge family saga” – The Bridge family is about to face their toughest test in generations. One they may not all survive.

Albert Bridge’s love story with Gloria begins on a high note, but fate has different plans when duty calls him away from his bride. As he finds himself thrust into the chaos of the Pacific theater during WWII, their enduring bond is put to the test.

“Blue Hills” follows the Bridges through the war-torn days to the vibrant era of the 1950s. While love may face its share of trials, and the shadows of a criminal underworld loom, the heart of this family beats strongly. With laughter as their armor and unity as their shield, they demonstrate that no matter how daunting the odds, family bonds can conquer all. It is a reminder that even the faintest glimmer of humor and the warmth of togetherness can pierce through the bleakest of times.

Leslie Ann Lee is an author whose love affair with the written word began at the age of six. She graduated with a BA in English and an MA in Literary Humanities and the love affair with writing continues to this day. She sees stories like films played in her head. As of today, she has self-published three other novels, a children’s book, and a non-fiction retrospect of religious life growing up in a conservative church. Early on in her adult writing career, she was recognized for her poetry with several awards and had the honor of having one of her poems published in a state-wide poem anthology. She has also won recognition for a few of her short stories. Her new book “Child Of Dawn” is set in the world of the Vale, which is ruled by elves and vampires and is destined for destruction unless a prophecy can be fulfilled and two individuals who are completely opposite can find something in common.

“Child of Dawn” – The Vale is a place ruled by magic and governed by elves and vampires. They have warred with one another for millennia, forbidden to associate, much less fall in love, until one elf and one vampire do.

Thus begins the tale of their son, Dagsbrún, forced to be carried to another world beyond their barrier of magic, also called the Vale. Here, he is raised by an elven relative. Half-elf, half-vampire, he is hunted because of his need for blood but cannot be killed. He grows embittered and torments himself because he is called a “monster” and a “murderer.”

And then, one day, his gypsy servant brings a girl to his remote castle. A girl, who much like him, is thought to be a curse simply because she is different. Anda is the daughter of a human father and elven mother who crossed over into the human world by accident during a storm. Anda possesses her mother’s magic but does not know how to control it. She is forced to flee for her life, thus arriving at Dagsbrún’s home.

Here, his grandfather, Gammel, the elf who fled with him when he was an infant, reveals to them that they are part of a prophecy that must be fulfilled to save the Vale from destruction. Anda must learn to control and use her magic, and Dagsbrún must learn to face his fear of losing the one individual who sees beyond his darkness.

Together, they cross over into the realm of elf and vampire and embark on an adventure that will take them through both the ethereal land of the elves and the dark wasteland of the vampire. Anda must fulfill her role in the prophecy or die trying. And Dagsbrún must come to terms with a heart that is slowly learning to beat with an undying love.

New book release: ‘Love Is Not A Crime’ by Lee Cushing

‘Love Is Not A Crime’ is the new novel by Lee Cushing. Photo: Google.

Contemporary romance novels have many sub-genres and those with LGBT characters are more common nowadays. Today’s new release is a combination contemporary romance and political fiction. “Love Is Not A Crime” by Lee Cushing is about a woman who has an affair with the daughter of the Malaysian king who is executed when the affair is discovered so now she requires a bodyguard to protect her. Politics come into play because her parents are major players in the political world. This sounds like an interesting concept considering that in some parts of the world, same sex relationships are still considered a crime. If this sounds like your type of read, check out “Love Is Not A Crime,” it is available on Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Scribd, and Smashwords.

Lee Cushing is a paranormal thriller author and a lifelong fan of the occult. Having become obsessed with supernatural folklore and the world of horror from an early age, Lee has spent years studying tales of the occult and immersing himself in stories of otherworldly phenomenon. He is also the owner of a number of vampire and horror-related groups in Facebook, where fellow fans of the supernatural come together to celebrate and discuss all things paranormal. His debut novel, “Voodoo Mambo,” blends high-stakes action and shadowy agencies with a dark underworld of demonic creatures and their insidious plots to attack humanity. Lee draws his inspiration from classic horror movies – including Hammer and Universal – as well as beloved TV shows including Doctor Who, Supernatural, The Avengers, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. In his new novel “Love Is Not A Crime,” Bellatrix Hale’s life is in danger after she has a one night stand with the King’s daughter, who was executed for it, and ends up falling for the female bodyguard who was hired to protect her. (Lee Cushing, 2023)

“Love Is Not A Crime” – When Bellatrix Hale watched the video of Latheefa Ayub being executed simply because she slept with her, she felt disgusted that the King had his own daughter executed because she was gay and had a one night stand with Bellatrix, an act which was forbidden in Malaysia and punishable by death. Worried about the King’s reaction to having executed his own child, Bellatrix’s mother hires a security detail to protect her when the King sends a hit team to kill her for sleeping with his daughter. Cara Jordan was a bodyguard, one of the best in the business. Bellatrix hired her to keep her safe from the King’s assassins. The attraction between the two women was immediate. Will Cara keep Bellatrix safe from those who want her dead and will the two women find happiness in each other’s embrace?
