As part of Olé, San Antonio programming this summer, the Pearl invites exemplars of the Spanish culinary scene—from Michelin-starred to up-and-coming Market chefs—to participate in intercambios, exchanges, with Pearl counterparts. Chef Jeff Balfour of Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery is hosting a Spanish dinner paired with Southerleigh brews and Spoetzl Brewery’s special limited edition Olé brews with Chef Jorge Fernandez Rodríguez of Madrid, Spain on Wednesday August 29 at 6:30p.m. The dinner includes a welcome reception curated by Southerleigh’s Chef Jeff Balfour and a 5-course seated dinner by guest Chef Jorge Rodríguez. Welcome Reception:   menu by Chef Jeff Balfour includes  Machacado tortilla, Summer squash terrine on pan tomate, Puffed egg with jamón, Mexican chorizo and gulf crab croquette, Bacalao Magdalena and Mini picadillo rellenos.
Beer Pairings by Spoetzl Brewery, makers of Shiner includes Las Canarias Ale and Tenerife Ale.

Seated Dinner: menu by Chef Jorge Fernández Rodríguez includes Sweet and sour pig ears salad, “Callos” (tripas) with kale kimchi, mushrooms and vermicelli noodles, Deep fried hoisin duck with spicy carrot hummus, Rice and beans Asturias style with saffron scented beef cheek, and Rice pudding with chocolate and stout beer.
Beer Pairings by Southerleigh Brewing Co. includes Blood orange lime infused kettle sour, Sake style rice beer, Honey orange cream ale, Russian imperial stout  and Microlot Katz Coffee (non-alcoholic coffee to be served with dessert).

Southerleigh to host anniversary party

Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery is hosting a party at Paper Tiger this Sunday to celebrate its third anniversary.

This Sunday April 22 from 3p.m. to 7p.m., Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery is celebrating its three-year anniversary by hosting a party at Paper Tiger. The celebration will feature live music from The Texases and DJ Agent 45, food by Pinch Boil House & Bia Bar and treats by Paleteria San Antonio available for purchase. Additional local vendors will include Barbacoa Apparel, Pedazos de Maria and artwork by St. Jahn. Admission is free and open to the public for all ages. Southerleigh’s anniversary event will also feature a special beer release of a three hops IPA to celebrate its three years.

Southerleigh is the first brewery at Pearl since 2001 and has a 15-barrel brew house, six serving tank and a firkin/wood barrel-aging program. It is a 7,900-square foot dining facility with multiple seating options including bar seating, patio seating and a private dining room that can seat up to twenty people. The private dining in the north dining room seats up to seventy-five people with the capacity to host parties of up to two hundred people.

Easter is right around the corner and local restaurants will be having Easter specials and brunch ideas for those who opt to eat out. Easter specials include:
Bakery Lorraine will offer special Easter egg moon pies, carrot cake and bunny heads made with white chocolate mousse and strawberry compote. Hours: 7a.m. – 8p.m.

Boiler House will have Easter Brunch specials including carrot oatmeal pancakes, cast iron rabbit bread pudding, Lobster Cobb, cured salmon patty melt and a country ham Benedict. They will also have brunch favorites such as the “David Lee Roth” Krispy Kreme Burger, Hangover Hash and Green Chili Pork and Eggs. Hours: 10a.m. – 10p.m.

Southerleigh will celebrate Easter Sunday with delicious drink specials including specialty mimosas, Micheladas and various brewed beers. Hours: 10a.m. – 4p.m.

Rosella at the Rand will offer a “Live Jazz Easter Brunch” from 9a.m. – 3p.m. The Brunch menu includes, Chicken and Waffles, Tom’s Huevos Rancheros, Chicken Biscuits and gravy and more. For beverages, the full bar will be serving mimosas, Bloody Marys and Micheladas. Rosella’s newest location, Rossella at the Garden will also be offering the same Easter Brunch menu from 9a.m. – 3p.m. Rosella on E Jones Ave will be open serving breakfast from 8a.m. – 3p.m.

For those planning on celebrating Easter Sunday at home with family and friends, Twang has some delicious recipes. These include: Michelada Deviled Eggs: Traditional deviled eggs with a twist of Michelada inspired flavor by using Twang’s Michelada Beer Salt; Sugar Cookie Balls: A sweet and easy no-bake dessert perfect for Easter festivities using Twang’s Cafe Zuca vanilla sugar and Slow Cooker Pulled Pork: A unique appetizer for guests to enjoy before the egg scavenger hunt.

Bakery Lorraine will offer special holiday-themed menu items during the month of February including Strawberry Pop Hearts, Grapefruit Tiramisu, Cherry Pistachio Tart, Raspberry Rose Japonaise, Chocolate Caramel Tart, Lavender Shortbread Hearts, Chocolate Pear Tart and Tuxedo Macarons.

Hotel Contessa is offering a pre-fixe dinner menu on Valentine’s Day priced at $55 per person. They will also be offering two Texas wine tour packages for couples.

The Dinner menu includes specialty items such as Maine Lobster – Jumbo Lump Crab, Artichoke Fondue, Baguette Toast, Caramelized; diver scallops – leek and butternut squash risotto, kefir lime butter, poached asparagus and Warm chocolate pecan pie – brown sugar bourbon ice cream. The Cover 3 Valentine’s Day prix-fixe menu will feature four courses, including a dessert and each crafted to be enjoyed by two starting at 5p.m. The following day, February 15, also known as Single’s Awareness Day, COVER 3 will also offer the same prix-fixe menu after 5p.m. for those wishing to instead celebrate their independence. Women wishing to celebrate Galentine’s Day with their girlfriends on February 13 are welcome to visit COVER 3 anytime that Tuesday for half-priced bottles of wine that are being made available throughout the day. Dinner Items Include: Grilled Snapper Veracruz and Blackened Filet Mignon.

Rosella at the Rand will offer a $75 pre-fixe dinner menu on Valentine’s Day featuring unique, off menu items with wine pairings at an additional cost. The menu includes Surf & Turf – sous vide boneless short ribs and scallops, complete with rainbow carrots and pomegranate demi-glace; Fowl – cornish game hen, purple potato gratin, wilted spinach and chicken glace and more.

Hotel Emma will offer special holiday themed menu items on New Year’s Eve at Sternewirth and Supper.
New Year’s Eve at Sternewirth
San Antonians are invited to celebrate New Year’s Eve at Sternewirth, Hotel Emma’s bar and club room. Guests will be able to enjoy Latin jazz music by local icon Henry Brun and his international trio. A $20 cover fee will include champagne toast and party favors. Price: $20 Time: 9p.m. to 2a.m.
New Year’s Eve Special at Supper

Hotel Contessa is offering a pre-fixe dinner menu on Sunday, New Year’s Eve. Reservations are required for New Year’s Eve dinner, $55/person, $25/children ages 8-13 and children 7 and under eat free.

Boiler House will be serving holiday themed cocktails and dinner items on New Year’s Eve from 5 p.m. to close. The restaurant will also have their regular lunch menu along with special brunch items on New Year’s Day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. New Year’s Eve Cocktail items include: Gingerbread Martini for $14 and Hot Buttered Texas Rum for $12. New Year’s Eve Dish items include: Lemon Chive Crabcake for $15, Calamari Piccata for $21, Roast Leg of Lamb for $29 and Eggnog Pound Cake for $8. New Year’s Day Brunch items include: Green Chile Pulled Pork, Poached Eggs & Popcorn Grits, Hangover Hash, BLT Mac & Egg and Barbacoa Sando.

Southerleigh will have specialty items for New Year’s Eve brunch and dinner. Southerleigh’s hours on New Year’s Eve are from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. and will be closed on New Year’s Day. Brunch hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include House Cured and Braised Country Ham, Creamed Field Peas, Flash Fried Collards and Eggs Over Easy. Dinner hours: 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will include Slow Roasted Pork Shank, Hoppin John, Black Garlic spiked Spinach, Dijon Glace and Whole Fried Gulf Flounder, Creamy Crystal Butter, House Fries and South Texas Slaw. Guests will receive a complimentary glass of champagne to ring in the new year at 12 a.m.

Esquire Tavern will be celebrating New Year’s Eve with dinner reservations and sparkling wine to toast at midnight. There will be live music and more.

Rosella at The Rand will be serving regular Sunday brunch on New Year’s Eve from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The restaurant will then open the same evening for a FREE New Year’s Eve party from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Rosella at the Rand will be open for New Year’s Day brunch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Krause’s Cafe will have a self-serve Hot Chocolate bar, Bloody Mary bar and free black eyed peas on New Year’s Day. Restaurant hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will be celebrating the new year with a Munich Platter – A pork shank stands atop of mashed potatoes, chicken schnitzel, red cabbage, sauerkraut, assorted sausage, crisp pork belly and a side of Dunkel Sauce.

Pinch Boil House and Bia Bar will be hosting a crawfish boil with a Boil & Brews on New Year’s Eve, Eve, Saturday December 30 from 12p.m. to 3p.m. Guests can enjoy boiled crawfish or crab legs, shrimp and other seafood items. There will also be a DJ and cold beer.

San Antonio Beer Week’s Mid Year Gala and Food Pairing

On Thursday December 7, Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery and nine other local breweries, will get together at Blue Star Art Complex for the San Antonio Beer Week Community’s Mid-Year Gala and Food Pairing. Ten of San Antonio’s best breweries will be showcasing unique, one-of-a-kind beers paired with four tickets for small plates from local chefs, including Southerleigh, Weathered Souls, Blue Star and Botika. This event will take place from 7p.m. to 10p.m. and at 8:30p.m. guests will be able to meet the brewers for a Q & A session. Tickets are available online and are $35 per person. Price includes a SA Beer Week commemorative taster glass. The San Antonio Food Bank will be taking donations to support continued efforts to aid those affected by Texas Hurricane Harvey. Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday June 18 and area restaurants and businesses are offering specials to celebrate dad on his special day. Some of these include Boiler House, Hotel Emma, Paramour, Southerleigh, Krause’s Café and Twang. Detailed information is available online. (Giant Noise, 2017)

Boiler House will have a specialty Father’s Day menu and regular brunch items served on Sunday. Entrees include Makers and maple glazed baby backs, Mexican corn, bourbon baked bean for $18, smothered pork chops and biscuits-grilled pork chop on buttermilk biscuits, fried eggs, buttermilk gravy for $19 and lobster pot pie for $21. Dessert includes The Homer Simpson-Warm glazed donut, espresso ice cream, Guinness caramel for $8.
Brunch hours are from 10 a.m. to 3p.m.

Hotel Emma:
Supper will offer a lunch sandwich special of Bratwurst Burger with Burgundy Cabbage, Pickles and Cider Mustard. Brunch hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Larder will offer all fathers a complimentary iced coffee or glass of wine with every purchase. Larder hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Easter Sunday specials in San Antonio

Easter this year is on April 16 and several restaurants are offering Easter Sunday specials for their guests who would rather eat out with their families. Boiler House, Bakery Lorraine, Hotel Contessa, Southerleigh and Hotel Emma will have special holiday themed menus and desserts. (Giant Noise, 2017)

Boiler House – Boiler House will have specialty menu items and regular brunch items served on Easter Sunday. Brunch Entrees include Bunny & Brie Pierogies, Maple Cured Bone-In Pork Belly and Lobster Pot Pie. Dessert includes Poteet Strawberry Parfait. Special Libation includes Southtown, basil-serrano infused lime juice, local honey and Monopolowa Gin. Dinner hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Bakery Lorraine – Bakery Lorraine will have special pastries available on Easter Sunday and throughout the beginning month of April including: Egg-Shaped Moonpies: Colorful Easter pastry eggs that’s made with homemade graham cracker cookies filled with marshmallow in the center ($4 each). Neapolitan Bunnies: Cute bunnies made with vanilla cream, strawberry and chocolate ($6 each). Lemon Berry Chicks: Designed baby chicks in a basket of lemon berry filling ($6 each). Carrot Cake: Bakery Lorraine’s specialty carrot cake ($6 each). Hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hotel Contessa – Hotel Contessa’s restaurant, Las Ramblas, is offering a special Easter brunch on Sunday, April 16 between 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., reservations required. Prices is $55 per person, $20 for children ages 6-13, free for children under 5. Brunch hours are from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Southerleigh – Southerleigh will be offering Easter brunch specials as well as its full brunch selection. Business hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hotel Emma Supper will be offering an Easter special that includes Hudspeth Farms lamb patty melt on pumpernickel with gouda and pickled Vegetables. Lunch hours are 11a.m. – 2 p.m. Dinner hours are 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. Larder will be offering an off the menu Easter Special of an Egg Salad Tartine with avocado, radish and carrot top salsa verde. Larder hours are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Southerleigh celebrating National Beer Day with specials

This Friday April 7 is National Beer Day and Southerleigh, located at the Pearl, will be celebrating the occasion with a happy hour. The restaurant and brewery will be doing a special Progressive Happy Hour on April 7 only during specific times:

  • 3p.m. – 4 p.m. – $1 per pint
  • 4p.m. – 5 p.m. – $2 per pint
  • 5p.m. – 6 p.m. – $3 per pint
  • 6p.m. – 7 p.m. – $4 per pint

Guests will be able to enjoy Southerleigh favorites such as the Gold Export Lager and the Pale Moon Rising American Pale Ale. There are no beer exclusions to this special happy hour while supplies last.  Special pricing ends after 7 p.m.
