Pearl announces new pop-up: Nave Coyote

Pearl is excited to present Nave Coyote, the third pop-up in the Diehlman Building. As the brainchild of designers Peter Glassford and Isabel Moncada, Nave Coyote will showcase a compilation of hand-selected contemporary designs from Guadalajara, Mexico, Moncada’s hometown. Glassford and Moncada curated a vibrant collection of fashion, jewelry, leather goods, tabletop designs, furniture and lighting items that vary from practical to extravagant. This showcase will introduce San Antonio to the booming contemporary design scene in Mexico.  (Pearl, 2019)

Designers Peter Glassford and Isabel Moncada kick-started their careers in 1990 after falling in love with the talent they found in Mexico. The duo formed Glassford Moncada in 2016, a design alliance and workshop in Guadalajara with a Tex-Mex perspective. Their pop up in the Diehlman Building will have items that were exclusively selected for the Pearl and will be available for a limited time; from Friday November 29 through Monday January 6. Business hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10a.m. to 6p.m.

October events at the Pearl

Pearl recently announced its campus-wide programming throughout October. The property will host numerous family-friendly and fall-focused events including the Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Festival, San Antonio Herb Market, Pumpkin Patch and more. (Pearl, 2019)

October programming includes:
Bottling Department Two Dollar Tuesdays
The Bottling Department is excited to launch Two Dollar Tuesdays which kicked off on October 1. The following $2 specials will run all day every Tuesday at the food hall:

  • Maybelle’s: $2 soft serve cones
  • Bud’s Rotisserie: $2 jambo
  • Tenko Ramen: $2 edamame
  • The Good Kind: $2 corn in a cup
  • Fletcher’s Hamburgers: $2 large fry
  • Bar at the Bottling Department: $2 Pearl beer

San Antonio Herb Market – Saturday October 19 from 9a.m to 2p.m.
The 28th annual San Antonio Herb Market kicks off on Saturday, October 19 from 9a.m. to 2p.m. during Pearl Farmers Market. The featured herb of the year is Agastache Foeniculum (Giant Blue Hyssop), a perennial plant that belongs to the mint family. From 12p.m. to 1p.m., there will be a cooking demo held outside of Pearl Stable conducted by La Botanica Chef/Owner Rebel Mariposa. Pearl patrons can stop by to try recipes that use the highlighted herb.

Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Festival – Sunday, October 20 from 10a.m. to 2p.m.
Pearl and The Texas Butterfly Ranch are proud to host the fourth annual Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Festival on Sunday, October 20 from 10a.m. to 2p.m. Promising a weekend of science, education and fun, the festival will celebrate the Monarch Butterfly’s majestic migration through Texas on their way to Mexico to roost for the winter. The event will include a people for pollinators parade, monarch butterfly tagging, educational demonstrations, live music and the world debut of the Waggle Dance at noon. Costumes are encouraged. More information about events taking place around the city is available online.

Pumpkin Patch at Pearl Farmers Market – Saturday, October 26 from 9a.m. to 1p.m. and Sunday, October 27 from 10a.m. to 2p.m.
A weekend pumpkin patch provided by Braune Farms is set for right before Halloween and will take place during the Pearl Farmers Market. The annual Teal Pumpkin Project initiative will also be on site offering teal pumpkin painting to help grow awareness of a worldwide initiative that aims to cultivate inclusiveness of all children, especially those with food allergies, during the fall season/Halloween. Paint, brushes, and decorations are provided and families are encouraged to purchase small pumpkins from the patch to participate.

Pop-Ups at Pearl
Pearl is excited to continue its pop-up experiences during October at Pearl’s Dielmann Building. The Dielmann Building, located in the old Il Sogno space, will host retail shops Miron Crosby and Period Modern. Miron Crosby, a bespoke boot brand from Dallas, occupies the space in the beginning of the month, followed by Period Modern, a brand offering hand-selected vintage and authentic Danish mid-century furniture. Period Modern regularly features the work of makers such as Knoll and Herman Miller, as well as designers Milo Baughman, Paul McCobb and many of the Danish masters. Their vast collection of original vintage art pieces, fixtures and decor is updated daily. Period Modern often collaborates with other San Antonio business owners to sponsor live music shows and art exhibitions both in-house and off-premises. The October schedule includes:

Fall pop-up series at the Pearl

Pearl is thrilled to announce three new pop-up experiences coming to Pearl’s Dielmann Building this fall. The series will feature curated brands made in San Antonio and Dallas and offer locals another unique shopping opportunity as each will occupy the space for about a month. (Pearl, 2019)

The Dielmann Building, formerly the Il Sogno space, will host retails shops Miron Crosby, Period Modern and a contemporary design studio by Peter Glassford and Isabel Moncada. Miron Crosby, a bespoke boot brand from Dallas, will take over the space, followed by Period Modern, a brand offering hand-selected vintage and authentic Danish mid-century furniture. The pop-up series will close with a contemporary Mexican design showcase of vibrant fashion, jewelry, textiles, leather goods and furniture from Guadalajara-based Peter Glassford and Isabel Moncada.

The pop-up schedule at Pearl includes:

  • Miron Crosby – September 12 through October 12 open from 10a.m. to 6p.m.

Sisters Lizzie Means Duplantis and Sarah Means are the force behind Miron Crosby, a bespoke boot brand with a flagship store in Dallas’ Highland Park Village. Miron Crosby is inspired by the sisters’ experiences of growing up on their family’s West Texas cattle ranch and later living and working in New York City. Their artisanal boots for women, men and children are hand-lasted in Texas by Rios of Mercedes, a 160-year-old manufacturer and cousins of the Means sisters. Their line features the iconic tall cowboy boot, the popular shorty and the novel midi-boot.

Period Modern hand selects mid-century modern classics with pieces by Harry Bertoia, Finn Juhl, Adrian Pearsall,  Hans Wegner, Eero Saarinen, Milo Baughman, George Nelson and Vladimir Kagan. Artwork showcased at Period Modern includes many mid-century artists and several local artists.

  • Hello Diseño Mexico – November 29 through January 9

Guadalajara-based Peter Glassford and Isabel Moncada will showcase contemporary Mexican design with a vibrant mix of fashion, jewelry, tabletop, leather goods, and furniture. The pop-up will introduce San Antonio to the booming contemporary design scene in Guadalajara, which is well known to the world but underexposed in San Antonio.

April at Pearl is setting up to be a busy one with various activities planned for the whole family. Programming for the month includes Poetry at Pearl, a Mi Golondrina retail pop-up, the First Thursday Night Market, Bidi Bidi Party, a Battle of Flowers After Party and Día del Niño. Also, Gustav’s Geysers have reopened at Pearl Park, making it the perfect destination for spring time fun. (Pearl, 2019)

Poetry Month at Pearl in April – Various activations throughout Pearl Campus all month
In honor of National Poetry Month, Pearl will celebrate the art of the written word with various poetry-themed activations throughout the property. Pearl has commissioned local poets to create works in collaboration with select stores. Celebration of Things: Window Poems features the work of three San Antonio Poet Laureates and three Texas Poet Laureates; poems are installed on the storefronts of The Tiny Finch, Niche, Local Coffee, Bakery Lorraine, LeeLee, Vintage Bouquet Bar and The Twig. Typewriter Rodeo will also be at the First Thursday Night Market on Thursday, April 4, where Poem Wranglers will create free, custom poetry for visitors on their vintage typewriters. The Twig will have a book signing with Kari Anne Holt and Sean Petrie of the Typewriter Rodeo where they will sign copies their recent publication “Typewriter Rodeo: Real People, Real Stories, Custom Poems.” All events are free and open to the public.

Mi Golondrina Pop Up – March 5 – June 1 from 11a.m. to 5p.m.
Mi Golondrina, a collection of handcrafted high-end artisan clothing and accessories made in Mexico, returns to Pearl. Guests can shop the collection at the Pearl pop-up store, located next to Niche and The Sporting District.

First Thursday Night Market – Thursday April 4 from 4p.m. to 8p.m.
First Thursday Night Market returns to Pearl for the month of April. Visitors can shop with their favorite local Farmers Market vendors and artisans while enjoying music by regional performers. Mojo-Ramba will perform at Pearl Park from 5:30p.m. to 7:30p.m. and. St. Duke’s in Pearl Parkito from 4p.m. to 8p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Bidi Bidi Party – Tuesday April 16 from 6p.m. to 9p.m.
Pearl will host a Bidi Bidi Party on Tuesday, April 16 from 6p.m. to 9p.m. at Pearl Park. DJ Manolo Black will spin the best of cumbia and Latin music to honor the Queen of Tejano. The event is free and open to the public with food and drinks for sale at the Bottling Department.

Battle of Flowers After Party at Pearl – Friday April 26 from 12:30p.m. to 5p.m.
Pearl will host its annual Battle of Flowers After Party at Pearl Park. Guests can enjoy specials from the Bottling Department while dancing along to Sound Cream and DJ Catwalk. The event is free and open to the public with food and drinks for sale at the Bottling Department and Southerleigh Oyster Bar.

Día del Niño – Tuesday April 30 from 4p.m. to 6p.m.
Since 1925, Día del Niño is an annual celebration in Mexico honoring children and this year, Pearl brings the celebration to Pearl Parkito. Pearl will honor this tradition by partnering with the Instituto Cultural de México (ICM) to bring an evening of bilingual storytelling, traditional Mexican games, face painting, and more. Día del Niño is free and open to the public with food and drinks available for purchase throughout Pearl property.

Mi Golondrina pop-up at Pearl this month

This week Pearl launches the next pop-up with Mi Golondrina, a collection of handcrafted clothing and accessories. It all starts this Friday March 2 with a kickoff event from 5p.m. to 7p.m. and throughout the month, guests can visit Mi Golondrina’s pop-up to shop their latest line of high end artisan apparel and accessories. Regular shop hours will be Tuesday through Saturday from 10a.m. to 5p.m. (Pearl, 2018)

Founded in June 2013 by Cristina Lynch, Mi Golondrina is a style collection that works with skilled artisans to pair centuries-old embroidery techniques with modern styles. Each one-of-a-kind piece in the Mi Golondrina collection is hand-crafted in Mexico and the finishing details are added by their talented team in Dallas to create an assortment of high end artisan apparel and accessories. Their collection is typically sold in their Dallas showroom, online and at pop-up events. Mi Golondrina will be making their San Antonio debut this Friday at Pearl.

The Vintage Bouquet Bar at the Pearl

Just in time for Small Business Saturday, created to encourage customers to support local businesses, there is a new tenant at the Pearl. Officially opening this week is The Vintage Bouquet Bar. This is a flower and gift boutique that consists of full service floral customization where customers can select their florals, fillers, greenery and arrangement style for a unique and personalized piece. The brain child of locally based and innovative flower farmers of Vintage Heart Farm, it will open to the public on Wednesday November 22 at 1p.m. Due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday, it will be closed on Thursday November 23 but will re-open on Friday November 24 at 10a.m. Regular business hours will be Sunday 10a.m. to 3p.m., Monday through Friday from 10a.m. to 7p.m. and Saturday from 9a.m. to 7p.m. (The Vintage Bouquet Bar, 2017)

The Vintage Bouquet Bar’s trained “floristas” will assist customers in hand selecting florals to create the bouquet or arrangement. The store will focus on seasonal floral varieties that are grown just 40 minutes away at Vintage Heart Farm or sourced from other local and U.S.-based flower farms. The Vintage Bouquet Bar will also feature the “succulent mini-bar,” where customers can customize living succulent jewelry pieces, such as rings, cuffs, statement necklaces and succulent halos. Each piece will be set with a beautiful array of mini succulent plants. The Vintage Bouquet Bar will also feature an informal creative workspace where it will offer one of a kind floral design classes.
