Discover Tejano Legacy: A Landmark New Exhibition at the Briscoe Western Art Museum

San Antonio, TX — The story of the American West didn’t begin with the cowboy. It began centuries earlier through the people, cultures, and traditions that shaped the region long before the United States was established. (Briscoe Western Art Museum, 2026)

Beginning July 24, the Briscoe Western Art Museum invites visitors to experience that story through Tejano Legacy: Another American Origin Story, a landmark bilingual exhibition exploring nearly 400 years of Tejano history, culture, and identity through exceptional works of art and rare artifacts. The exhibition will remain on view through January 18, 2027.

Expanding the Story of the American West

Tejano Legacy brings together more than 100 paintings, sculptures, saddles, maps, weapons, and historical objects from private collectors and museums throughout the United States and Mexico.

Developed by the Briscoe in collaboration with scholars, collectors, and lending institutions, the exhibition expands the traditional narrative of the American West by exploring generations of Tejanos whose influence endures today in:

  • Ranching & Horsemanship
  • Language & Vocabulary
  • Music & Culinary Traditions
  • Everyday Life Across Texas & Beyond

“Tejano Legacy is more than an exhibition. It is an invitation to experience a richer, more complete understanding of the American West…”

Liz Jackson, President and CEO of the Briscoe Western Art Museum

What Makes This Exhibition Special?

  • Unprecedented Access: Several works considered part of Mexico’s cultural heritage are being displayed in the U.S. for the very first time.

Science Meets Magic: Built From Real Astronomical Data

Developed in collaboration with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO)—a pioneering research center founded in 1890—Starstruck draws on decades of genuine astronomical research.

This isn’t just a standard digital exhibition. By translating complex scientific data into a fully immersive, walkable universe, the experience dissolves the boundary between the observer and the observed. Visitors will be able to touch, hear, and navigate the wonders of the cosmos using all of their senses.

🚀 Cosmic Travel Partners: During the journey, guests will travel alongside humanity’s most powerful space observatories, including the Hubble Space Telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), and the Chandra X‑ray Observatory.

🌟 Experience Highlights

What can you expect once you step inside? The journey breaks down into some truly breathtaking segments:

  • Launch from the Summit: The experience begins atop SAO’s Whipple Observatory, where a cosmic guide named Astro awaits to launch you into deep space.
  • A 3D Galactic Drift: Glide past thousands of galaxies, race through the Milky Way, and soar close to the Sun to witness its immense energy.
  • The Edge of Infinity: Encounter extreme exoplanets, stand beside a dying star, and walk right up to the edge of a supermassive black hole.

Celebrating Innovation & Human Accomplishment

Beyond the stunning visuals, Starstruck honors centuries of scientific curiosity. From the Big Bang to our modern solar system, the experience places you inside the story of discovery itself, reminding us that humans are not just observers of the cosmos, but an active part of it.

“This project demonstrates how immersive experiences can make complex scientific ideas more tangible and engaging. It’s exciting to see astronomical data translated into an experience that encourages curiosity and exploration.” — Randall Smith, Associate Director for Science at the Center for Astrophysics at SAO.

Bringing Starstruck to San Antonio marks the latest addition to Fever’s growing worldwide portfolio of cultural experiences, aiming to make science and art completely accessible through cutting-edge technology.

Commitment to Accessibility

Developed in close collaboration with the Smithsonian Office of Visitor Accessibility, Starstruck has been thoughtfully designed to ensure a welcoming experience for everyone. Accessibility features include:

  • Captions and visual descriptions
  • Wheelchair-optimized viewing pathways
  • Assistive listening devices
  • Complimentary companion access
  • Monthly low-sensory days alongside a fully trained staff

The ThoroughFare Promise: They pride themselves on making as many products as possible completely in-house. That means zero seed oils, artificial additives, preservatives, colors, flavors, gums, or fillers. No shortcuts. Just real food.

The Story Behind the Concept

The seed for ThoroughFare was planted back in 2015 during a trip to Maine taken by Co-Founder and CEO Ryan Goebel and his mother. Eating almost entirely from local producers, Ryan noticed the food tasted richer and left them feeling noticeably better.

He realized the magic lay in how the food was produced and the short distance it traveled to the table. Ryan brought this holistic philosophy back to Austin, opening ThoroughBread in 2018 to immediate critical acclaim. ThoroughFare is the natural evolution of that dream, reimagining the way grocers operate by letting you take home the exact ingredients used in their kitchen.

“This began years ago with a simple belief – that food should just be food. Made with real ingredients, without unnecessary shortcuts, and brought to people at its best. ThoroughFare is built on that standard, and we’re proud to finally open our doors and share it with our community.” — Ryan Goebel, Co-Founder & CEO
